Re: Myths , tips and advice on getting a CSP

I didn't do anything special and prior to getting the CSP I had no relation with Chase. I thinks it's all a matter of having a nice CR. Those who feel the need to jump through hoops to get a (or this) are working hard in all the wrong places.

Captain -- check the Chase pre-qualify site.  When I first started checking, it only gave me Slate, then as scores improved it was Slate and Freedom and finally CSP.  If you have a pre-qualify I say go for it.  Good luck!

Everyone who doesn't have both Chase Freedom and CSP should do exactly this. It's a good sign of improving and recovering credit. It's easy to do, no risk...why the heck not do this? You might get a nice surprise.

Yeah, I already have a Freedom and am pre-qual for Slate right now, but no CSP yet. I did just pay off a balance I was carrying on Amex and that hasn't reported yet, so once that and two newer cards start reporting, I think I'll be golden.

How often should I be checking? Is it worth checking every day? Once a week? Once a month?

Once a month is fine since credit is a slow process lol.

Well, I checked every day but that was probably overkill.Smiley Tongue  It just made me feel good to see the pre-qualify.  If you're waiting for Amex to update, check out when they report updates on your CR and start checking on that date and keep checking because Chase will be soft pulling you and it may take a while to filter through.

Re: Myths , tips and advice on getting a CSP

I was pre-qualified for CFreedom and CSlate but have decided to wait until my utilization shows up as less than 10% (still showing at 45%).  Most balances already paid.  Maybe get higher CL?

Re: Myths , tips and advice on getting a CSP

I honestly think it is not so difficult to get this card. I had a credit history for 11 months when I got mine with a 8k limit and around 700 FICO.

I think that when you are a Chase checking customer helps a lot (I am).

Re: Myths , tips and advice on getting a CSP

Getting utilization down sounds like a good plan -- it should definitely help in getting a higher SL, and of course I have to issue the typical pre-qualify disclaimer:  You are never Guaranteed approval, just because you have pre-qualify.

But Chase pre-qualify is as good as it gets, so let us know when you app and how it goes.  Good luck!

I am curious if anyone knows why offers come and go?   I had the CSP/SLATE going for a couple weeks at 12.99% APRs and suddenly last week it disappeared.  Are the offers for a short time period and do they reappear monthly or quarterly?
