They shut down my foster-sisters (and I hate that term) account after she was initially approved. I understand, but it was a big hassle!!!!
about three weeks. She had to go into the branch and close the accounts. Otherwise, she would have had to wait for them to officialy close it and send her a check. Nobody knew how long it would stay on freeze before closing.
You know what? If they (NCFU) are that big of a pain in the *** (freezing and closing accts. along with a FBI/CIA-wanna be security dept.) then I'm glad I'm not eligible. Not worth it IMO just to get a high limit CL. I'll just stick with USAA and the current credit union I have for now.
=O
This thread scares me.
I was also under the impression that if a family member is military, you can join even if that family member is not a NFCU member.
I called into to apply for membership last week, and it went through okay.
Just told them my sister is a captain in the army, and they asked for her access number.
But I told them that she was not a member, and they proceeded with the application with no further questions (except a note at the end with her name, rank, and branch).

That's how I joined and was shut down until I could provide my brothers access number. The security dept explained to me that one cannot join through an eligible member that one needs to be a member first before you can join. The only exemption is a family member that is or was military retired
There seems to be some confusion then. There are Facebook reps telling people a relative only needs to be eligible (active or retired), not a member.
