Re: NFCU Members' STARTING CLs

Joey got a 2500 limit,  he was able to get a CLI to 4k, no HP,  don't even have the card in hand yet...

he sent a message through the secure message center that he wanted the iwo jima design... Not sure if they got the message, I guess he will find out when he gets the card.

Webhopper – glad to hear of the approval and CLI!  Why do you think his initial CL was 2500 and not something higher?  How did y’all go about getting the CLI?

Re: NFCU Members' STARTING CLs

It was likely a low limit due to the fact that he has no open TLs on his account, other than AU accounts, (Zync, Amazon.com Visa, Discover) he had an auto loan opened in May 2011 which was paid off in March 2012.   He did have a 13k account with Citi that was opened by his ex wife without his knowledge, and used to buy her boyfriend a motorcycle.  This became a charge-off in 2010. He also had a foreclosure in 2009. Basically, he lost his job due to his company closing the doors, came home to find his wife in the tub with another guy.  the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 was very hard on him. The chargeoff was settled in Feb 2012 for $3200, which we don't feel guilty about not paying in full.  He tried disputing the account with Citi, once he found out about it but he had no way to prove that he didn't know about it... since she opened the account from their home computer. Those two items are hurting him, even though he has multiple other TLs that were PIF, never late, including a mortgage, several revolving accounts, several auto loans, and LOCs. With him no longer being employed, and using all of his money on lawyers for the divorce there was just no way for him to keep the house.   Good news is that he had done so much quality work on it that it sold at auction for 45k more than what the mortgage on it was. If it weren't for the divorce and losing his job, he would have been able to sell it with no issues and made a profit.

With him, I think its just going to take time to rebuild.  His scores are sitting at 682, which isn't bad, but the CO is so recent that I'm sure its affecting his CL on this new card. Over time, I"m sure NFCU will increase it, but 4k is plenty for now Smiley Happy

We did it online, got the 3-5 day message, and I saw the new limit this morning when I logged in.   Ironically, he's gotten pre-approved offers from Cap1, Credit One, and and a preapproved offer for a IBC Visa which is the local bank that we use.   For Cap 1, and Credit One I just kind of laughed as they got tossed. IBC Visa, maybe in the future, but we don't really see a need for it right now, since NFCU has been so generous.

Re: NFCU Members' STARTING CLs

I just applied for membership today. Going to have to see what USAA has available as I've been a member there for awhile.
