NFCU

I have been rebuilding credit since 21

Fico before having to purchase car was 780-790. Financed thru NFCU
Been with NFCU since 2009

Current FICO 740

Their site says I am pre approved for every  credit card.
I only have one inquiry since March 24
Is it worth the hit to apply?

I'm looking to transfer balance from a Chase card to NFCU for a lower rate and maybe 12 month no interest

My Cl on that card is $19 k with a  9k balance

would you suggggest looking at trying to transfer to another card at Chase or seeing what my relationship with NFCU will do ?

How likely is it I will be even get close to that limit at NFCU?

Do card companies look down on balance transfers?

I have no

idea what to do. Ty

NFCU pre-approvals are known for being pretty unreliable.  That said I'd still apply if you've had a good relationship with them.  I can't say you'll get the starting limit you're looking for, but if you go with Navy just don't go for the Flagship if it's your first card with them.

Chase, as many other banks, won't let you transfer to another one of their cards.  It will have to be with a different lender.

Re: NFCU

@tithelady,

The preapprovals from NFCU are extremely unreliable in my opinion.

Three questions:

1. How long have you had your car loan with NFCU?

2. How many inquiries and new accounts do you have in the last two years?

3. Do you have any late payments in the last two years?

Re: NFCU

Have had car loan for 12 months. Car note is $406. I have auto pay for $426 to pay a lil extra each month

1 hard inquiry since 2024 that was for this same NFCU car note

no late pays whatsoever on any accounts since 2021.

No new accounts in 2 years other than this car note in 2024

appreciate your help!!!

Re: NFCU

Knowing this, I think you've actually got a pretty good chance w/ how long you've been with them and your clean credit profile over the last 4 years. Opening up a CD or establishing DD for a bit will boost your approval likelihood even more.

They might be more receptive to BT since they sent out a BT offer via email to existing cardholders whom they see has a high balance on another card (via soft-pull). More CC mailer offers I see nowadays for relatives also have BT offers.

Gardening since 07 July 2025; Total Revolving CL: $107.5k
Inquiries: (as of 06 Jan 2025)
EX: 1/6, 2/12, 3/24
EQ: 1/6, 3/12 (2 auto), 3/24
TU: 1/6, 2/12, 3/24

Re: NFCU

@tithelady,

Given your relationship with Navy Federal, I would definitely definitively try for the Platinum for a balance transfer. Based on your credit history, you should be approved with no problems.
