Do you think that when the merge does happen, USA Fed CU will fall under the umbrella of Navy FCU, or they will have their seperate marketing products etc?

From what I have been reading in articles, the CEO of NFCU said they will merge operations all under the NFCU banner.  They also said that NFCU will offer all of USA Fed employees a job including the CEO (though it's not clear what position the USAFed CEO will take).  I think the USA Fed name is going away, and it will all be Navy Federal.  I will say I'm about 95% certain of this based on what I've been reading.  Another article even said that it will take 3 - 4 months for the entire acquisition to be complete and everything to be changed to NFCU.

I applied online yesterday and was also having an issue with the verification process.  I called and spoke with a CSR and she told me to apply using a different email and login.  I then asked her would I receive multiple hard pulls on my credit reports and she told me that as long as the pulls are within 30 days it only counts as one pull.  I then asked her what sources they use for the validation process and she told it was mixure of credit reports and DMV records.  So finally after my thrid application, I was able to verify my account.  Checked my reports this morning and only one pull on EX.

I also asked her (Holly) if the merger with NFCU was approved by NUCA what would happen to my account.  She told me that nothing with my current account would change, I would still have the same acocunts but all of USAFCU would be trnasferred to Navy FCU if and when the merger was approved.  She also told me that USAFCU members would have access to NCFU's credit products and rates.

Hope this helps!

thank you.  this is good information to know.  This is probably why my information is failing because I am on the registration of my brother's vehicle and he lives in TX.  Thanks, guess I will give this try again to see if I can get verified.

Not a clue.

One guess is as good as another, because that's all they are: guesses.

My guess, lol, is that all the members will have their membership transferred over, IF national credit union rules allow Navy to make USAFCU membership an eligibility criterion, but that credit products will be evaluated individually. If there's some negative history with Navy in the past, I'd say that will be noted. They might even look at how long someone has been with USAFCU, as they're not dumb, and I'm sure that they're aware that folks will be trying to back-door into Navy.

If I were desperate to get into Navy, I'd probably go ahead and give this a try, knowing that there are no guarantees of anything, and that maybe I'd wind up being able to get Navy credit products, and maybe not. It'll cost you $5 or whatever the minimum share cost is plus however many inqs. Up to each individual to decide if it makes sense in their own particular situation.

edited to try to clarify my speculation, which again, is all this is

+1...  I completely agree with you and don't see your comments as speculation.  But I guess for some of us, it's worth the try to get back in.  Hahaha.  Smiley Tongue

Re: Navy Fed Will Merge $604M USA Fed

Tazman, thanks for posting the info from your additional readings. It does sound promising, certainly for the membership transfer, at any rate. And if the credit products go as well, that's wonderful. Navy is more forgiving than other institutions, so they might work out some sort of process in which blackballed Navy applicants with USAFCU products can be rehabilitated.

Good luck, I hope this gets you back in with Navy! I still haven't picked up any credit products, being overloaded with TL's at the moment, but I'm definitely keeping my membership active, because you just never know what the future will hold.

Okay, thanks. I will apply as well if half of that is the case to get my foot in the door with Navy, I mean USA FED CU, lol. I went back an re-read that article. To me it sounds like a merger will result in USA FED CU giving up their rights, marketing, banner etc to Navy Federal CU. But I do think we (share account holders) will not get a notice of the merging and changes until next spring or see a change until mid summer of 2011.

Funny thing, I noticed that Navy FCU imposes an annual fee with some of their credit cards, and currently USA FED CU does not. But in the fine print on USA FED CU's website under the terms and conditions it states that beginning January 1, 2011 an annual fee of $25.00 will be imposed. Sounds like a merger Navy is influential in this decision. Since, all Credit Cards will eventually be branded with Navy FCU.

Just my speculations too.

Cory

Re: Navy Fed Will Merge $604M USA Fed

i file for bk in april of 2009. i truely beleve people sure have a second chance. also i have membership with navy and ussa cu. navy and to some extent ussa will give person a second chance i am proof of that. navy give me a 8500 n rewards card and ussa 1500 mc (secured). i also believe tazman and many people like us will make a excellent custoner, but there is alot of banks and some cu will not touch anyone who has a bk on their cp or burn them. for ex chase, citti or amer express, navy and usaa cu too.

before i open my account with navy and ussa first of july i talked with a senior manger about my bk and i did not want an inq if navy was going too turned me down. he said navy does give second chance if show proof that you are making progress like paying bills on time etc he also said if you cost navy money like bk on them or repro and even house foreclosure you are forever blacklisted for life. there is no second chance according to rick.  ussaa said the same thing.  oh i forgot one more thing that rick said the only exception is if the person is in active duty miltary it will take at least 6 months to get back into navy cu he or she has to take special classes and have to go thur his commanding officer etc.

as for tazman it does not hurt to try, just dont be surprise if one day navy close your account.. there is no good way too get back with them. sorry

+1 -- I agree with you on that.  For many companies, if you have already cost them money, then they do not want to let you back in to give you a second chance or anything.  My point was trying to "force" nfcu's hand to give me a second chance by getting checking, savings, credit card, car loan, iras, and any other accounts I can with USA Fed.  That way when NFCU takes them over, they can see I'm in a much improved financial position.  This is something that I would not be able to prove to them any other way because they don't want anything to do with me because of the bankruptcy.  Not that I fault them or blame them for it, but I would think they would try to make some money back off of me or something.  Anyhow, thanks for the info on nfcu.  that is helpful to know.

Re: Navy Fed Will Merge $604M USA Fed

i think you want navy to look at you as a person- that you are a change person for the better. navy just will not care and the relationship between you and navy is history. you can not force navy into another relationship with you, if navy does not want too. you sure try ussa cu they will give you a second chance they give me an cc and next year unsecured card. i understand you have too try, but if navy close your account in the near future, give ussa a try.

One thing I've learned about financial institutions over the last 3+ years is that they change thier rules, even when they're utterly convinced that they'll never change their rules.

We'll all just have to see what happens on down the road...
