Navy Federal Flagship possible?

I have two Capital One Quick Silver cards ($1750 & $750). This year I received a Capital One Walmart $500 and Capital One Savor $1000. I already had a car loan with Navy Federal so I applied and got approved for a $1000 Checking Line of Credit with them. I wanted a credit card but because of all of the recent activity I just got a secured N Rewards card putting down $1000. I got the card May of this year and haven’t been graduated.

Right now, my Fico Score 8 is Equifax 667 as of 10/5/2021, Transunion 663, Experian 652. My Fico score 9 on their site is 649 Equifax. In a month or so I want to apply for their Visa Signature Flagship Rewards or Platinum in hopes of receiving a high credit line. I haven't missed any payments and kept my utilization low. I probably should of have waited with the Secured card; will that interfere with me getting approval for another card?

Re: Navy Federal Flagship possible?

Flagship has a minimum CL of 5k.  If you think you can qualify for 5k, then go for it, otherwise, I would drop down to one of their lesser cards, and do a product change to Flagship once your CL is 5k

In My Wallet: MS AmEx Platinum | NFCU Flagship Visa | AmEx Delta Reserve | Atmos Visa
Closing: AmEx Plat Biz | AmEx Delta Reserve Biz

Re: Navy Federal Flagship possible?

I did not qualify with higher scores and 10+ cards with $10k+ limits.

Flashship can be tough.

I would wait til your 2nd unsecured Navy card.

GL!

Rebuild started in 2014  -  $100k unsecured credit in 2017  -  $500k unsecured credit in 2024.

Re: Navy Federal Flagship possible?

@Anonymous I would suggest being patient and not applying for the Flagship. You have had a lot of activity meaning new accounts that likely have brought down your AAoA.

Let your accounts age and your secured card graduate. You can apply for a second card with Navy later on down the road and likely get a decent limit if you keep your scores up (low utilization, no new accounts, following AZEO).

The flagship is my second card with NFCU, my TransUnion score was around 630ish when I get approved for a limit of 15000. As long as you already have a relationship with NFCU you've been paying everything on time, your chance of approval is pretty good. Make sure it's been 91 day and 3 statement cut since your first card.

Re: Navy Federal Flagship possible?

I wouldn't honestly. I thought I was pushing my luck with a 730ish TU9 and lots of new accounts... and based on what I've read here, I should've been denied as others were... or at least been given a lower limit... like my two other credit union cards both at $5000.

To be fair they've known me a lot longer than other lenders.

Edit: I can't html apparently.

There are many who have gotten a second card before their secured card graduated.  I got my $8.2k Flagship with a 590 TU09 and the DW got a $15k MR Amex with a 620 or something.  In each case, our secured card graduated a month or so later as score rose a bit more.  We had some very filthy reports at the time.

No one here has any definitive answer.  One person with several derogs and a low 600's TU09 can score a big $25k SL while someone with a stellar report and a mid 800's TU09 score can get a $1k limit.  NFCU is excellent, but hard impossible to predict.

It is only a single TU Inquiry to find out your fate...  (at least they don't nail you for CLI's any longer!)
