Was wanting to get my spouse a NFCU card before the really good sign up bonuses end tonight. My choice is the NFCU cash rewards (since Navy is our main bank we would get 1.75%). We have a targeted offer for $300 sign up bonus. Or the Flagship which is a $400 sign up bonus but no waived $49 annual fee. I have the Flagship and plan on probably product changing as I'm still not sure the AF is worth it after the first year. Those with multiple cards which ones from NFCU do you find to be worth?
I don't have multiple cards with NFCU but initially I was interested in the Flagship as an alternative 2% card -- also, since it's often suggested to make the first card with Navy something other than the Flagship, I have only the More Rewards card at this time.
I wasn't interested in a low APR card that much so the Platinum didn't really seem to fit. I'm not a Costco shopper so having a NFCU Visa for groceries or gas isn't an issue.
Based on the international transactions I'd made with the MR, I am guessing the statements for the Flagship would be basically the same, along with available card use data.. While it may not be that big of deal, I am not satisfied with the statements and/or online data availability for international transactions I see with the MR card. So, I've kind of lost interest in the Flagship for that one reason based on comparison with my Amex travel card statement/online data.
I would recommend investigating how the More Rewards card could work for you though, I think it's a very fine $0AF card to have around. It's a decent earner for me and the core rewards/offers also include some nice Amex (connect) offers as a bonus.
I am new to NFCU. I just got the cash rewards in dec with 2500 for 250 sub. In my case i dont travel so the platinum is attractive as my second card when the time comes, low interest and good for bt's. the more rewards looks nice too but i would rather have that platinum in my back pocket in case a major expense comes up i can charge it to another card and then bt to the plat to save money.
I have the Flagship and the Platinum. I'll keep paying the $49 AF for the flagship just for the Global Entry credits. Each AU also gets a credit so I've got my whole family covered. But I don't see any reason to keep more than one in the family. I would go with the MR for your spouse.
