Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I'm currently 25 years old, and do not have a credit card in my name except for a Guitar Center CC, and a Macy's CC (both at 0 balance). I also have two credit cards under my brother as an authorized user. I've tried applying to Capital One's Cash Rewards card, and the Citi forward card for college students. I got denied both times. I don't know what caused my application to get denied. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to credit/credit reports, so I was hoping someone here could help me figure this out. I know that Citi looked at my Equifax, and I just got my free Equifax report for being denied. If you guys need any more information feel free to ask. Thanks in advance!

There are to many reason why you could have been denied, but you should be getting a letter explaining the reasons why you were denied.
Your debt to income ratio may be too high ie you have too much credit already.
The 2 cards under your brother, are they paid off too or do they carry a balance?
If i had to take a guess i'm gonna say
1) limited active credit...only 2 card is pretty limited
2) short credit history
3) inquiries
you'll get a letter stating the reasons. look at gardening for awhile

Welcome to the forums!!!
Can you tell us about your reports:
-Any Baddies (Collections, Judgements, late payments)
- # of INQ's
-Current account ages
Thanks guys for such quick responses. The email I received from Citi stated, "Thank you for applying fo rthe Citi Forward(R) Visa(R) account. Unfortunately, we are unable to approve your request for the account at this time because of the following: A delinquent credit obligation(s), either paid or unpaid, was recorded on your credit bureau report." I don't know what that means.
My brother's accounts do carry a balance, quite a heavy one that I know of. I don't even know why or how I became an authorized user. I haven't even SEEN my own card. My credit history started 6 years and 2 months ago.
Would closing my Macy's and Guitar Center cards be a smart choice? Or taking my name off the "authorized user" list for both cards? I'm very frustrated as it feels I haven't done anything wrong, but am being punished for it lol.
quick edit:
My equifax report says I have no negative accounts on file.
Oh also the last time I checked my credit was in June of 2011 for a auto loan. It was in the mid/upper 600s if that helps.

This either means you have a derogatory account from a collection agency / A judgement / Or a late payment reporting on your EQ report OR You have had a Citi account in your name in the past that was Charged off (they do blacklist)
Equifax report says I have no late payments. I do have something from collections of $100 that seems to be from a cable provider I used at my old apartment. I didn't even know this was here until I checked now. But could that $100 dollars really be the reason I got denied?
