No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
This is my personal opinion. I have been in your shoes and I'm going to tell you what I wish someone had told me back then when I first started. Wait. On everything.
Where your scores are right now, unless you are going after a secured card, I wouldn't apply for anything until your scores reached at least the 700+ range. Spend that time to read through the threads here of approvals and denials and starting limits and CLI requests and notice their credit situations and scores that they have.
Being nickeled and dimed on repairs or even replacing an entire engine for your vehicle would still be astronomically cheaper than financing a new car in your current situation.
I took your advice, and checked out the difference between the rate I would get with a 700+ credit score and what I have now, and it's 100's of dollars. I'd rather put the money into my car than give it to a bank only to drive something I really do not want. I don't think it makes much sense to get another card because the two I have are serving the purpose of developing a good payment history and good payment habits. With a low CL, it helps me understand what I can and can't afford each month without getting backed into a corner.
If my car totally breaks down (knock on wood) then that might force my hand, but Im just going to be patient and wait on it all. Thanks for the input!
Yes, this is exactly what I've decided to do. Im glad I posted about it because it really helped me gain some clarity.
It's a good idea to hold off on applying for a new credit card or a new car loan until your score improves. The derogs falling off will benefit your score greatly, but you can also help it along by taking some of these steps: https://www.credello.com/financial-resources/credit/how-to-improve-credit-score-immediately/ - When your score improves, you'll be eligible for far better credit cards, terms, and interest rates.
