DW wants a Visa for her 3rd credit card. She travels outside US and Visa is widely accepted. Also shops at Costco, and we buy all of our gas there. Other spend items are mostly merchandise or groceries.
She opened a secure Cap 1 M/C in Sep 2018 with a $500 deposit. Cap 1 has raised her CL to $851. She opened a Cap 1 QS1 M/C in Jan 2019 with a $3k SL. She will have 2 of 5 green checks on their steps program, shortly. Her inquires are 3 EQ, 4 EX, 3 TU, all within one year. After getting her old collection items removed recently, her scores are now hovering around 670.
We are planning to get pre-qualified for a mortgage loan within 3 to 6 months, but the closing will be another year away (its new construction). We think there is enough merit to pursue a 3rd revolving account for her, relatively soon. I am content gardening what's viewable in my sig.
Citi's website pre-qual'd her at 17.49% APR for the Costco Anywhere. That product seems like a good companion to the 1.5% cash back reward of the QS1. She is also an NFCU member with $500 in her savings account. The Flagship would be a consideration, but a little worried about the $5k baseline - my hunch is, it would be ok though. Neither the Citi or NFCU cards charge foreign transaction fees, which is a must.
Ideally, either EQ or TU would be pulled, due to 4 inquires on EX. That makes us a little unsure of the Citi HP. Wanted to ask folks here, what other cards could she consider?
I recommend the NFCU cashRewards card with 1.5% cash back on all purchases. No annual fee, and no foreign transaction fees.
UpperNwGuy, thank you for the response, and suggestion.
The NFCU cashRewards would be a good replacement for DW's QS1, but alas, that will be a future consideration. We're looking for a Visa that is complimentary to the QS1.
I think the Costco is a great idea if you do in fact shop at Costco lol. Also huge congrats on building your own home! Super exciting!

Thanks -- this will be our fourth, "forever house."
The Costco card is tempting her for sure. But I sort of feel like, it will always be there, whereas the 50k points SUB on the Flagship is appealing, and possibly fleeting (no pun intended). Another option I suppose, is attempt to PC her QS1 into a Venture, and then pick up the NFCU cashRewards, as UpperNWGuy suggested above?

That was a solid pun.
Yeah that sounds like a viable option. I see what you’re saying about the SUB on the Navy card and if you can use that particular card, definitely take it. I hear Navy is quite generous with SLs.
