What are the best banks & credit unions around?
The game plan is to join and use products/services and eventually apply for CC.
Looking for banks that offer good 0% cards and high limits.
Best is subjective.
Down here in the Boston area, I would recommend either Chase or DCU.
Chase's checking/savings products aren't good but they do have good credit card and mortgage offerings. The checking services get better for HNW clients but their savings remain pretty terrible regardless of how much you have.
DCU has good checking but has mediocre savings (good for $1000 then terrible above that), credit card, and mortgage offerings.
For non-mortgage loans, I haven't used either so I can't say who is better there.
@vermontcred I would suggest based on reviews New England Federal Credit Union. Solid reviews on wallethub

Keep in mind with the credit union net you find a credit union that you can use without a fee. I live in Los Angeles and the credit union I use is in Maryland. There is a credit union I could use that is a few miles from my home without any fee.
I lived in NH for many years and was very happy with TD Bank which had a branch just a few miles from my home. That being said, they may not be the bank for the kind of product you have in mind.

Oh, a new-comer! We banked with Bay Bank before it became Bank of Boston and the rest.
