New Travel Card: CSP/CSR/Other

Hi All!

I am still fairly new to the credit world and am having difficulty deciding my next step. Here are my current specks:

-Chase Freedom ($1500 limit), open for 1 year.

-Discover ($2500 limit), open for 1.5 years.

-Last discover statement said my credit score was 721.

     -$75,000 income

     -22 years old

-Long time Chase customer but I have no significant amount of cash in those accounts

I am going to be planning and booking travel for January over the next several months so I was considering getting a travel credit card both for the rewards and the 0% foreign transaction fee. Ideally I am interested in the CSR, but I do not show up as prequalified online, I do show up as prequalified for the CSP. However, I am worried about hitting the spend requirement to obtain the sign up bonus for either card in the next three months. I'm on a pretty strict budget through the end of the year, but it becomes significantly more flexible in January and I shouldn't have a problem hitting the spend. So should I book all of the travel on my current cards and then get a travel card right before my trip? Or is there a better option such as a differnet credit card I am not considering?

Sidebar: I recently requested a CLI for the Chase Freedom and of course they want to do a HP. Would you reccomend going through with this? I held off initially in case I decide to apply for a new card. I have three possible inquiries on my credit reports.

Personally I would apply for the card even if it reauires a hard pull. You only have 2 CC, and it's great to have a variety of credit.

Welcome to MyFICO

No one shows up as preapproved for the CSR online because they haven't started doing that.  If you are showing a preapproval for the CSP then I would say your chances at the CSR are very good.

I would apply for CSR. How much is the total of your travel expenses that you would be booking for January? I'm sure you wouldn't have trouble meeting the spend limit, and then if anything, maybe you could transfer part of the balance to a 0% card if you're unable to pay off the balance that you rack up. Would hate to see you miss out on travel credits and a great travel cc!
