it was a great card before the 95 AF lmao
Can't say I'm surprised about the AF. If there was no AF, it would make the Capital One Quicksilver look really, really, really bad.

So, it will be released on the 24th, and more confirmation on the $95.
Thanks for the further clarification.
Part of me is bummed, but the other part is celebrating because now I don't have to worry about gardening for a few months and so forth. Oh the joys of a credit card enthusiast!
Same here. Now I won't have to spend weeks trying to figure out if I should try "just one more time" with U.S. Bank, LOL.
I'm fairly sure I'm maxed out with my three existing U.S. Bank cards, so it's probably not a good idea for me to poke the bear... they've been really good to me, so I need to leave well enough alone.
@WasteMgmt wrote:This is a very intriguing card. The $95 annual fee makes it on par with the Amex BCP. Good card overall, no AF would have been amazing.
I agree it can be said to be a BCP competitor, but the BCP doesn't shine as much as it once did due to 5% no-AF options for groceries, such as the Citi Custom Cash (if used only for groceries) and the new AAA card. Heck, even without those if one has Freedom and Discover usually groceries are covered for half the year as a rotating category.
I'm still hoping to find out that the new AAA card codes Walmart as a grocery store... if it does, it'll be quite interesting for many (including myself).

And since Walmart in store (the ones I've visited anyway) codes as Supermarket/Groceries on the Affinity Cash Rewards card, we've gotten 7% for Walmart for 2 quarters this year.
This card was intriguing, but looks like we will pass knowing it has an AF.

Agreed. I love my BCP because of ease of use, and I use the Citi Custom for other things (*coughHomeImprovementcough*) and since it's my only Amex, it gives me access to AMEX offers (which I've used a lot). Plus the uncapped 6% on streaming services is nice (since that category seems to be pretty generous), but 5% is easy enough to make without an AF.
The NewSocks card would've given me 6% on Chewy.com (which is in my top three single store/site uses in my budget) and probably Lowes, while giving me an additional 1% at Costco (3% vs the 2% with my SDFCU). All of those are nice, but I get 3% on Chewy now, 5% on Lowe's (with the CustomCash, which I'd just move over to gas, maybe). So while it would've been nice, I'm not going to be making enough for it to matter. Without the AF, I could have sold this to a lot of friends as a good catch-all card (and I honestly think it's probably worth the AF for them), but most of the non-MF types I know aren't willing to do the over/under on what kind of spend you need to make it work and blatantly refuse AF cards, no matter how good they would come out in the end.
U.S. Bank is one of the few major banks still earning 1% on payment using Enzo+PayPal billpay which can sorta boost it to 7%/2.5% unlimited
I'm finding this for the first time and initially I was quite intrigued.....but now getting to the end of the thread and seeing confirmation of the $95 AF......this may be nice for some, but a hard pass for me.
The largest appeal for this would obviously be Walmart spend as a category. Some Amex BCP owners (like myself) have access to Walmart Marketplace grocery centers which code as Grocery and get 6% there.....However, some people don't have that access or correct vendor coding. And as @Duke_Nukem pointed out, those who have the Affinity CR card (like myself) also most likely already get 7% at most Walmart stores for Grocery in those rotating quarters, as well....but again, some people may not. Affinity also adds a trump with its 5% annual Amazon spend with the usual 10% in the 4th quarter........with no AF.
Another merchant that seems unique is Home Depot (which I prefer over Lowes). Home Depot's store card does not offer cashback like the Lowes card does (only 0% financing for limited time), so this could be very useful to many if their job requires weekly home improvement spend.
The other popular merchants listed that usually catch peoples' eyes like Amazon, Target, Lowes, and Best Buy already have dedicated 5% cards available, so the extra 1% may not warrant a $95 AF for most.
If this had been No-AF it could have been a possibility for me as an alternative 6% Walmart spend once I downgrade the Amex BCP, in addition to the Home Depot, Chewy.com merchants etc etc.....but they killed this out of the gate with the AF.
The card has its appeal for some, so Good Luck to those who apply!
