Is the Marriott points 6x PLUS the 5x you get being a member? If it’s 11x then that’s pretty good. Was curious on this.
If you're asking if the card lets you double-dip on top of the points you're earning via stays, the answer is yes.
As a Platinum, I earn 15 points per dollar (10 standard +5 for Platinum), plus any bonus arrival points. If I used a Marriott card to pay for the room, it would be the 15 points/dollar + 6 for 21/dollar.
Does it add up? Sure. If I spend $20,000 at Marriott this year, I'd earn 300,000 points through the stays plus 120,000 on the card (if I used it). I could also put it on another card (CSR for instance) and still earn the 300,000 points plus 60,000 miles, which are worth much more than the 120,000 points to me. This is why I ultimately do not use a hotel card for hotel stays - the points are worth less per unit than airline miles and I already have a significant stream of hotel points coming in, so I find more value from using the spend to accumulate miles rather than more hotel points. If someone stays at Marriotts a lot and almost never flies, the math may well work out different, but the two are more often than not joined at the hip so having plenty of both is ideal.

Both interesting upgrades and especially with Marriott with now finally combining with SPG. I’ve usually always stayed at Marriots (not a crazy amount maybe 5x year) however the new Chase Hyatt card is pretty appealing. I’ve always loved their high end resorts say in Aruba.
Which do you guys prefer? They both seem like can even be used as a daily if needed.
Good luck staying at the Hyatt with points in Aruba. I have never seen availability. Marriott on the other hand you have 3 choices of hotels in Aruba with plenty of availablity year round: Ritz, Stellaris, and Renassaince. I stayed at the Sellaris last year on the Tradewinds level and next year I am staying at the Ritz.
Marriott has a ton more hotels and a lot more availablity. If you are only going to use one I would pick Marriott. That being said I would do Hyatt as well for the sign up bonus. 60k Hyatt points is worth around 1100 dollars. Nothing to sneeze at. Last month I spent a week at a Hyatt at a local beach for just points. Not a great hotel but the rate at the time was 330 dollars a night. And in October I am staying 4 nights at the Hotel Madeline in Paris for free. Which is over 500 dollars a night at the time.
@minski wrote:What are the thoughts about keeping the cards not for benefits or spend but for the free anniversary night? Would it be worth it?
I have the same thoughts as well. I have the Original Hyatt card and SPG card, which both come with the annual free night. I could care less about elite status since I don’t stay at hotels that often.
Perhaps a good way to use these certificates could be for a nights stay before an early morning flight. That’s still highly dependent on how close one stays to an airport though.

@AnonymousMy personal feeling is that accruing hotel points through credit cards isn't an optimal use of card spend. Hotel points tend to have among the lowest valuations of any type of point, and aside from the occasional high multiple for a specific spend category, they are generally not worth it.
Agreed. I use Orbitz Visa as my hotel card. Gives me 5% back on hotels booked on Orbitz. Being an Orbitz club member gives another 3-5% depending if you book on the app or just online. Finally, connecting to Orbitz through BeFrugal gives another 3%. So I get 10-11% back on hotels, am not limited to one chain's offering, and can take advantage of sales.
As a bonus, the Orbitz Visa gives 2% back on non-Orbitz purchases. So instead of using Citi Double Cash Back for the miscellaneous low-reward stuff, I use Orbitz Visa to build up hotel credit.

Agreed with the double dipping. The11x points essentially with Marriott is a pretty large amount.
Really leaning towards the Marriott card. I like it because it’s straight up 2% on all other purchases. Basically a no AF 2% with the free night. My Uber is my daily but I would even use it pretty heavily on the daily.
Getting 1 cpp at Marriott is a YMMV thing...especially without meaningful status.
*Milb beat me to it.

Hi @Anonymous, your other posts got flagged due to your multiple edits... I'm pulling them from the quarantine but will remove them since you've re-posted.
If you have the problem again simply post in the Technical Help forum or PM a moderator instead of posting again (re-posting usually compounds the issue.)
