@KLEXH25, the reason we usually advise staying away from new credit for 12 months prior to a mortgage is so your score will be cleared of any penalties for new accounts or inquiries. Six months is probably good if you don't need those points.

 

Scoring requirements for mortgages should be similar from bank to bank, with 740 being the lowest score capable of grabbing the best rate. I wouldn't want to see you risk lowering your scores at this time by adding accounts.
