There's a method to the madness, but I'm not going to lie... that was exciting in a weird way.
Amex Zync: Instant Approval, NPSL.
Wal-Mart Discover: Instant Approval, $1k
Chase Freedom: Instant Approval, not sure of limit.
Capital One Cash Rewards: Denied
Bank of America: 30 days.
I'm stopping myself there. The denials brought the high down a little but I'm going to try and recon everybody, if for nothing more than the experience. I'm not sure if Credit Analysts are even operating at this time of night, but I'm willing to bet that if they are, they'd think I was a wacko for calling them, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning.
A couple quick questions!
1) Should I wait until Chase contacts me with a credit limit before calling them, or just call in under the pretense of finding that out?
2) I'd like the BofA card despite the turmoil they seem to be in lately. I have a feeling they may have declined or waited on the decision due to the fact that I don't have a savings account with them and my checking through them only sees limited use (but always carries a small balance). I actually use my CU primarily and ING for savings. What number is the right one? There's so many on the backdoor page.
3) Capital One!!!! I shake my fist at thee! I want a better card with you so I can drop this stupid Newcomers card!! I should have apped for the "Cash for Average Credit" and not the "Cash for Excellent Credit", but their designation was "no bks or lates" and I have neither. So should I ask to be considered for the average card in recon?
I'm putting on some shorts, donning a straw hat and grabbing my shovel, because it's time to garden for the next year or two.
I had fun as well today. I just could not resist the app itch! I stopped at two cards and apps though.
I would wait with Chase and see what CL they offer you. If I remember what I have read correctly Chase does soft pulls and you can request CLI in 6 months?
BOA backdoor... I admit I have never had any dealings with BOA, but I would say that since they are such a large organization almost any of the backdoor numbers could be used.
Cap1 is a funny organization. That is all I think I can say without my post being smacked by the mods
I have two of their cards. I am not sure if they are considered starter cards or not. I am not very happy with their CS. I am going to sock drawer one and will sock drawer the other one once I get a Amex BCE or BCP card (in the future). I might even be lucky enough to increase my overall CL to the point that I can dump them both (since they have annual fees of $19 and $39).
No need to garden for two years, one year and these inquiries will be off your record ![]()
I was going for the gold. I wanted to add four cards; no particular reason, I just decided four would be my number. I curbed myself after the second denial instead of pushing my luck any further.
As of yet I haven't had any issues with Capital One so I figured I would continue on with them. I really have no desire to keep a $300 credit limit around that isn't going to grow or ever be capable of a PC, so I thought it couldn't hurt to try and get one of their better offers and then just shut the first one down. We'll see what recon produces, but I may keep it around as a gas card if they can't approve me for another product.
The Chase and Amex were my primary targets. I have to admit I wasn't expecting an approval on the Chase. Confidence just wasn't there with my existing two cards. Amex relationship starts as of today, and while it'd be nice if it was already ten years old at my age, I have only been a resident of the US for a year so it's not bad if you look at it from that angle. Wally's Discover is a bonus for the Fico but I didn't get my account number so I'll have to wait till I recon it tomorrow or until the card comes in the mail before I get to take a look see what that (drops to after th)is.

Automated app status number: 888-338-2586
Let us know how what it is.
Wait, who was that? Bank of America?

Sorry- oops! Chase app status number. You can find out your credit limit and APR. All automated
AHHHH. I was all excited that BofA had me approved. All it told me was that I was approved? Does that mean they're not sure what I'm approved for yet? Kind of scary if that's the case.
Brother, that just made up for the making me think I was approved on BofA. My CL is 3000, and the APR is 22.9 (but I'm okay with that). In 6 months when they see my flawless history with them it's going to drop, I'm not worried.
Now to give some thought to dropping that CapOne immediately... no use for a $300 newcomer card. Might keep it just for that slight bump to my total credit....
Edit: I'm going to feel silly if you're a she, and I said 'brother'.
