Orchard offer...question

I opted out long ago so don't get offers, but have a current Orchard CC so got this today.

"You've earned SPECIALLY SELECTED Platinum Elite status..." (whooohooo!!!)

The terms are not bad: $2000.00 CL
                                        0% APR for a year
                                    12.9% APR after the promo
2% cash back (up to $400/yr)
                                     Still has pesky $39 AF

My current Orchard account: $1850.00 CL  (less than $100 balance)
                                                 23.15% APR
                                                 $39 AF

Really don't want 2 Orchard accounts, don't want to lose the good history. Any chance they'd combine accounts, give me about $4k CL, keep the history, use the new terms?

Thanks

Are you sure it is a new account? I don't think Orchard combines but it can't hurt to ask. Ask them to drop the AF and accept it if they will.

I asked Orchard today if they would combine two cards and they said no.

Re: Orchard offer...question

Just realized something. My Orchard CC is a Mastercard, the offer they made is for a Visa, so don't think they could be combined. Doubt I'll go for it. Don't want another AF card and don't want to close the Orchard cause it is my oldest CC.

Why do these people like to give you more accounts? wouldn't you think that changing the terms of the first CC would be better off for the person?

I know that another positive tradeline is always good but, you're paying more money when you get a card with another annual fee and the six dollar a month deal. Heck, I could be using  that six dollars for the Carl's Jr. six dollar burger.

I've always thought that this was a scam.

I wish they'd change the terms of my existing account to those in the new offer.

Figure if they are offering me prime rates I can get prime from another bank. Only want one more CC & would rather it not be another Orchard.

Don't follow you on the $6/mo, that's not in my T&C.

Re: Orchard offer...question

Called Orchard today with 2 questions.

1) Could they lower my current APR?  (23.15%, account since 2002, never late)

A: No, cannot lower APR at this time.

I have an $8.00 balance right now, told CSR I will not be charging anything to this card.

2) If I opened the offered Visa account could I combine the 2 accounts, keeping my history?

A: I could request that they combine, it is possible, but they will not guarantee it.

So, definitely will not open the offered account.

Yes, HSBC. You can have more than 1 account with them.

Re: Orchard offer...question

Orchard is my oldest card - got it just before my BK7 was discharged in August 04. The $59 AF just burns my you-know-what... It's the only card I have with AF. Every year, I ask if it can be waived or reduced. Every year they say to call after it's been billed. Every year, I call after billing and ask. And every year they say no, gee we'd love to help, but can't.

I've never been late or over limit on this card. I'd close it now, but I have BT on it at 3.9% into '08. Once that is paid - and before next year's AF is billed - it's see ya Orchard, even if I do lose the additional year of aging. Not worth the aggravation and blow to my self-respect every time I have to grovel to them for a morsel of humanity... which I never get. My scores will recover.

Sorry for the rant... Smiley Wink
