PNC bank - Secured card

Hello I currently have a PNC bank secured credit card, I am also banking with them with a good relationship. I have banked with them for roughly 3+ years not sure how much. In addition I have had the secured card for about 13 months with a great standing, I understand now through research the secured cards do not graduate. My credit is now very low 600s for experian through experian.com, It was very low 500 when I first applied. I was looking to get a new credit card now most likely secured due to my credit standing until I can get everything worked out, Is there any chance of me getting an unsecured card through PNC? If so is it best to call and pick their brains first?

Hello Gooty1,

They are heavily relationship based. Get your experian fico score to 640+ and you will have a good shot of being approved for a unsecured PNC card. Also be prepared to provide POI if approved which can be done with w2 or tax return at a local branch.

Re: PNC bank - Secured card

They are very conservative with limits too from what I've read and experienced.

I was approved for a $10,000 Discover card a couple weeks before I was approved for a $1,500 PNC card.  And they've never given me a CLI on the PNC card in 18 months.

It doesn't need a big limit to serve it's purpose as my restaurant card, so it's fine for me.

I will say that I used to have quite a few problems with paying my car loan on time with PNC in the past, so that may be why they've considered me a risk and given me a smaller limit.  My mortgage and checking account are through them too and neither of those have ever been an issue, nor has the credit card since I got it.  I've since re-financed the car loan to my credit union for a lower interest rate.

Re: PNC bank - Secured card

Gooty1,

I have bank with PNC for several years. As a matter of fact, they were the only bank that would work with my after my bankruptcy.  I got the secured card after my bankruptcy was discharged and kept until I got above for unsecured credit cards.  I never tried for a credit card with hem until after they approved my car loan.  Now I have a car loan with 2 credit cards and can’t say a bad thing about them.

I would check to see if there is a pre-approved card in your offers. I never had one, but you never know.  From what I have heard you have to have a FICO score around 650 to get an approval. You sound like you’re close to that.  Since you already have a relationship with them, I would sit down and talk to them.  You can also apply for a credit card and they can submit a reconn at the branch.

Hope this helps.
