Paying fed taxes with Visa

I need to make a federal tax payment and the third parties I normally use want to charge me 2.2% to use a visa although its only 1.87% service charge on MC and Amex. I really want to pay with my Visa does anyone know of a third party that would let me pay the 1.87% with visa?

Here's the list on the irs site. Looking at a couple, they don't seem to break out MC vs. Visa.

Thanks found one. Doesn't go down to 1.87% but offered it at 1.88%. What this tells me is I need more mastercards.

Re: Paying fed taxes with Visa

I know the page well as I'm strategizing how and when to pay some taxes with which card. (Hence my frustration voiced in another thread with my PC'd Double Cash not being a Double Cash until 6/30, given that my Arrival + limit is a bit anemic for me to do what I need to do.)

Now if you could help me find somewhere to pay for CA state taxes for under 2%, that'd be sweet. I think I'm just going to have to write them a check.

Usually for taxes I use my Amex SPG card at 1.87%. The SPG points are valued at 2.4. The only reason I am not doing so this time is I wanted to use my venture card because I am going to be asking for a CLI so I needed to take it out of the SD  before doing that. Also, I just had the venture statement cut and the SPG is cutting in two weeks so I wanted to have both cards reporting zero on the credit report.

Last month, I used pay1040 dot com to pay my federal income taxes. I paid with my Venture Visa and they charged me 1.87%.

Re: Paying fed taxes with Visa

My order of events should be that I'll close on my refi with some cash out and will be using some of it to pay for some taxes. I'm trying to decide what I'll be apping for after the refi settles and if there's anything with which I wouldn't feel horrified using an under 2% card to pay taxes to meet any spend bonuses.

I pay installment agree every month on a rewards card. so if you are using the quicksilver. forget the rewards. it means the fee you are actually paying for the payment is .037 percent. which is not bad. its so small i don't even think about it. if i pay 150 each month. it cost me less than 2 dollars. as long as the feds are happy. im happy.

Why not use your DC, Those pts seem to be worth about 2cpp, Plus they pay a higher interchange fee for it being a WMC. Smiley Very Happy
