Paypal Smart Connect CLI Strategy

What is the best strategy to get a CLI on Paypal Smart Connect. I make purchases around 100 dollars each month (off my 400 dollars CL) and pay it in full every month leaving 0 dollars to report as balance. I read somewhere if I report 0 dollar as balance they will not consider for a CLI in future. Is this true?

Also when is the best time to ask for a CLI. I tried it through automated phone system and denied saying 'your account is not eligible for a CLI'. Hope this is not an HP. Do they do SP? My account was open in June this year.

Re: Paypal Smart Connect CLI Strategy

The Paypal Smart Connect is issued by GE. As with most GE issued accounts, CLI's are based on the last SP (CareCredit and possibly Pep Boys are HP's). GE will only grant a CLI after every fourth statement. Since your account was issued in June, you will have to wait until October for a CLI. As with any card, heavy useage is helpful for getting a nice CLI.

Thanks. So i can guess in my case they did not even do an SP/HP as my account was not open for long time enough. It took fraction of seconds for the automated system to say i am denied.

Re: Paypal Smart Connect CLI Strategy

What I do with my cards, mainly Chase, is I charge a large amount on them at the beginning of my statement period and then pay it off before the statement cuts. This way it does not show my max balance as extremely high on my CR but it shows Chase that my limit is not high enough. I have only been trying this strategy for a couple months so we will see if it pays off soon.

Re: Paypal Smart Connect CLI Strategy

Thats what I do with my CHASE / Capital One Cards. Put a balance of about 70/80 % and then pay it in full before statement cuts

I've received auto cli's while carrying a small balance and no balance.  I only tried to initiate a CLI once and was denied, but I was carrying a large balance and I don't blame them.

Was that on the Paypal Smart Connect or another card? And was it a HP or SP?

Re: Paypal Smart Connect CLI Strategy

I've noticed the cli patterns with GE also differ. Trust me I have 7 cards of theirs if we count Care Credit that I tend to forget about. On my Paypal I have received 1 cli they gave me, and recently an initiated cli. I do carry a balance on it, not going to say I PIF and was not granted what I asked for, yet countered for a less amount.

Smart Connect and SP.  I'm hoping I get a CLI soon now that I paid them.  When I got the letter for the denial, they told me I made too many recent payments, but hadn't paid enough, carried a large balance, but didn't charge enough.  So apparently, I should use it often, and make one large payment on it...I think.
