FYI for everyone.... I completed my PenFed membership despite being denied a card from their automatic system last month. I completed setting up the account yesterday and put $5 in the Share Savings, along with the $5 deposit. I get a survey today via email for PenFed and I mentioned at the very beginning that I was disappointed I wasn't approved for a card and that I've seen people with more questionable profiles get the very card I was looking for (Power Cash). 2 hours later, a Branch Manager calls me and says she can work with me on getting approved.
I have SO many new accounts right now that I didn't decide to move forward, but she said I was for sure on the right track. I just need to let my accounts age.
TL;DR --- PenFed is awesome and the survey trick works if you want to get personal attention. She said to always speak to a human if you are iffy about getting approved on your own.
