PenFed Credit Card Notifications

Ok. Finally got the PenFed PowerCash Card and activated it. Set up the app on my Android phone and also on my Ipad.

1. I can't find where to activate notfications for purchases, etc.  Even on their main webpage, I do not see an option for alerts (sent to email) for credit card purchases. I get, credit card payment due in 10 days, card payment overdue, credit card payment posted. But, not purchases. Am I missing something. Does PenFed not offer alerts for purchases?

2. Also, when I try to enact travel notifications, I'm told that this feAature is not available to new accounts. Huh? So, how long is this supposed to last? Can I not travel with my card?

Anyone that could provide insight would be greatly appreciated.

Re: PenFed Credit Card Notifications

That's weird, when i enable travel notifications, i go to Menu/Tools/Travel Notifications on the app.

For the rest of the notifications go to Menu/Click on the gear on the top left corner/Notifications/Click on the account you want. You should be able to see the check boxes there.  When done, click save on the top right corner.

Their website/app are outdated!

Thanks C00mtg. When I go to the menu and notifications the only options are Credit Card payment due in 10 days, credit card payment overdue and credit card payment posted. There is no option for notifications for credit card purchases. Same thing on the website. This is really weird!!!

And when I do travel notifications, it says this service is  not available to new members. Please contact Member Services.

So weird. Haven't had this issue with my other three cards. Take that back, when I first got NFCU, they weren't doing purchase notifications on the app. Then, they added purchase notifications to it maybe a month or so later IIRC.

Re: PenFed Credit Card Notifications

It's pretty hard to have real time purchase notifications if your website doesn't even post them in real time, just saying.

Penfed is great for customer service and nothing more. Now that I've re-joined Navy I'm going to call Penfed for the second time and have them close my savings account and overdraft line of credit they left open for me after I closed my checking account.

Agree, i closed my checkings a few months back.

OP, PenFed is known for their glitchy system.  You could try to call and maybe their 100 year old IT team can fix that.  I won't be surprised if they still use commodore computers Smiley Very Happy

I'll add that they have some of the friendliest reps I've ever seen, so they have that going for them.

For anyone who doesn't know, they're updating their system and it should be completed by Q2 next year,

Re: PenFed Credit Card Notifications

Thanks MountaindewVoltage and C00mtg. Both of you have provided great info.

Maybe I will call in if the travel notification issue doen't right itself in a few months. Instead, I'll be giving my spend to the Paypal 2% mastercard that I received the same day. I am out of the country alot for work and I can't be limited in where I use my card. Hopefully, it will sort itself out soon.

Also, I'm glad to hear they will be getting updates to their system. Looking forward to that. Come into the 21st Century PenFed. Smiley Wink

Even with their system update I'm not going to hold my breath. There is a lot of work that still needs to be done.

- Lack of TouchID on their iPhone and iPad apps (most banks/credit unions have implemented it).

- Can't verify a card in Apple Pay without having to call to activate it (no text/email code option).

- Have to wait 3 days until the Apple Pay activation is completed.

- When opening a checking account you have to fill out a form to get a debit card instead of issuing one automatically which is the norm for most banks/credit unions.

- Travel alerts take 3 days to take effect.

- No alerts for credit cards purchases (push/text/email).

Re: PenFed Credit Card Notifications

In PenFed's defense, things seem to be improving, I was only on hold for 25 mins the last time I called.
