Thanks @AllZero, certainly is weird, but maybe my Chex is flagged after just joining Langley ???  Definitely NOT taking a HP just to join, will stay in the garden. I was planting seeds for the future, oh well.

Glad you joined Langley. I still have to join that fine establishment. I'm like you, looking for SP memberships.

I am following your advice, I love the whole Credit Union vibe, so far. Polar opposite of a BiG BAnk experience.  Just think maybe the back to back app'g might have set off a Chex flag, didn't realize it at first until the guy read this whole Patriot Act disclosure, which made me pause. I will wait a few months and try again, following your advice, picked these two first, since Langley and Penfed pull EQ.

Credit Unions are great. Learned about them here on myFICO. I try to space out my membership apps to every 3 months. Those are two great CUs to join. There's so many more to join! Smiley Very Happy

Penfed isn't hp anymore?!?

Correct. Their application page has even been updated to say that their credit check will not affect your score.

Hi,

I tried to join today after reading this thread via the online application and at the very end, I received an error message. I then called and the CSR tried she also got an error message and was unable to complete my application. She had another CSR call me back, a nice fella who informed me he had been there for six months and that it ALWAYS an HP for membership???
Can you direct me to where it says membership applications do not affect your credit score (SP) so that I can HUCB tomorrow and hopefully join successfully via a SP? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Just tried again and it gave me the same error message. I am blocked for some reason.

When you get to the disclosures part of the app, it clearly says that their credit check will not affect your credit score which means it's a SP.

It is very well possible that is only the case online though. YMMV with a rep on the phone.

Re: PenFed offers?

@AllZero, many thanks (again) I went back and reread your response to my post, and you did say to wait 3 months in between apps, so I pulled the trigger to soon and it sent up some sort of red flag or alert. I will put Penfed back on my to do list for 3 months from now.

@CreditobsessedinFL.  I'm not sure if PenFed is ChexSystem or not. Some credit unions are more sensitive than others. In general, that's why I space our my memberships.
