If it's a purchase transaction (not a BT or CA) within the 90 days from account opening, you will receive the points about 2 days after the transaction posts. Paying your credit card balance (after that charge) does not impact the points earning.

Who is your car loan with? I've never had a car loan that would accept credit card payments. You might want to check and make sure that this is possible before counting on this to meet your spending requirement.

There are a few out there, but you just hit on why I phrased the answer the way I did... Most won't (or will process it as a debit with pin, which is essentially a cash advance...).
