Please guide me on my next move

After about 48 hours roughly since discovering this amazing place, and having already been given a lot of kind and wise advice plus having spent a good few hours educating myself through reading content here, I'm already better off and very grateful to my fellow members. I hope that in the years to come, I'll be able to give others some guidance out of my own growing experience and knowledge.

My number one objective is to eventually get a Chase Sapphire Reserve with a high limit, which looks to me like the best fit for my travelling. However, as a close second, I'd like to be able to one day get the Amex Charles Schwab Platinum. My position just 24 hours ago was a HSBC-issued Mastercard with $7k limit, an Amex CC with $9.5k limit (both approximately 4yrs old) and a Jan 2025 FICO score with Equifax (can't access the other two agencies yet) of 765. Apart from my checking account, which I presume reports to the bureaus and which is 6 months older than the CCs, I didn't exist in the US system prior to mid 2020. All payments in full and early, but not always prior to some balances reporting, which a small number of times may have been in excess of 29%. (I didn't appreciate until I became a member here that reported balances mattered that much when paying in full each month; at home I'm used to just not letting anything above 50% reporting.)

Following some activity since yesterday when I decided to come out of my shell - thanks to what I've seen on here - my position right now is the Mastercard on $10k limit, the Amex on $12.5k, and a Capital One Quicksilver approved and being mailed out, but with a much lower limit of $2.5k (understandably because no internal history with them, plus no SSN), and a pending application that may or may not be approved for an Amex Green (personal).

My questions are:

1. If I am granted the Amex Green, would I one day be able to upgrade that to a platinum, and if so would that only be the vanillla version or could it be one of the co-branded cards such as Schwab, Morgan Stanley etc.? NB: When I applied for the green, it was actually platinum and gold, plus a Marriott card, that Amex was promoting/pushing me towards on the 'am I approved' page.  At this time however, I don't see value/a good fit with any of them, whereas the green is lower cost and I might get enough out of it to break even on the annual fee, but I see it as an investment in my future prospects anyway and I don't mind potentially losing a few dollars per year for a couple of years in the grand scheme.

2. Please could the members here who are experts through long experience, kindly give me some guidance on how to play the next year to two year period from my position, so as to get closer to my meeting my objectives? (If you need more info. for a strategy please ask.) After my recent activitiy if you tell me to do nothing for 6-12 months I'll do nothing, whereas if you think I should poke the bear a bit more before ducking for cover (I think you call it going in the garden?) then I'll go with that. However, please bear in mind I only have an ITIN/no SSN, and am non-resident so I'm unable to make a personal appearance at any bank branch. (So Chase currently out of reach, for example. I simulated an application with them, and learned I have no chance unless I fly over. I'm prepared to do that in the long run, perhaps when FICO goes above 800, but not right now.) I do have a US address and cellphone though.

The min SL for CSR is $10,000.    Did you try this pre-qualifying website? :

Pre-approved Credit Card Offers from Chase    (I believe there has been an approval with a declared income of $25,000.)

You can have up to 10 Amex cards:  5 Credit and 5 Charge.  You can  have the Green, Gold and Plat at the same time.  If you want the SUBs, one needs to get the Gold and then the Plt. The Schwab/MS versions are issued via those investment banks so you need to meet their requirements.

Re: Please guide me on my next move

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. In hindsight I can see my post was too long, so I appreciate you having read it and replying.

I followed your Chase link and gave it a try, in case it was new to me, but I think it was the same page I'd previously tried. The issue is not having an SSN. As before I tried entering my ITIN, which is 9 digits the same as an SSN, but their IT system can immediately tell my number is not a valid SSN/throws up a red error stopping me from  proceeding, and that's part of the reason I'd formed the opinion I'd eventually need to fly over and apply in person. The other part is that I've seen articles which suggest they do actually accept ITIN instead of SSN. If they do though, then I think it must be in branch.

My income is not particularly high, especially compared to what I've noticed some members here having, but fortunately it's significantly a lot higher than $25k. The issue in my head is not income or net wealth, but a) not having an SSN, and b) being a non-resident alien who's oldest credit account in the US is only 4.5 years.

However, this experience has started to change my outlook. It did just occur to me that although this eligibility checker may not work, perhaps when I feel I'm ready I might be able to submit a full application for a hard pull without actually being there. I'll go and simulate a full application, without submitting it, and see what the deal is and report back. My instinct is it will be the same though i.e. no SSN then no online application route...

Regarding what you told me about Amex, thank you very much. I have a Schwab account and like the idea of that card because of the ability to convert rewards in to investment dollars. It's not a major thing, but it would be nice to eventually achieve it.

Re: Please guide me on my next move

Wow! Further to the above comment I made about a full application with Chase, I do have the option. Unlike the eligibility checker, which requires specifically an SSN, the full application page has a dropdown menu and an ITIN can be input instead of SSN.

I don't dare go for it though. Surely I wouldn't be approved, given my limited US credit history?

Re: Please guide me on my next move

I'm probably a fool for being so impatient and not waiting for any advice, but we have a saying here: God loves a trier! When searching what my chances might be this evening, the first website that came up states CSR is available with a credit score of 660+. I'd previously read 800+ is needed but that's quite a discrepancy...well mine is much closer to 800 than 660 anyway, and despite recent applications with Capital One Quicksilver (approved instantly) and Amex Green (pending), I thought I might as well because this is my 1st choice card and I already had it in my head it was at least a year in to the future.

Although I don't know yet if I will get it, I'm happy with the result under the circumstances, because I did not get an instant denial/it's under review. If it gets declined, which is my gut feeling, it's very unlikely to hurt my chances in the future...and if miraculously it comes back approved then I'm winning. I've got my fingers, toes and another appendage crossed!

Should I call them ASAP and go in to smooth talker mode, or sit back and wait a while?

Re: Please guide me on my next move

your spree likely dq'd you based on chase's 5/24 rule.

Re: Please guide me on my next move

Thank you Rosco, but doesn't that rule mean no more than 5 cards opened in the last 24 months? So far I only have 1 confirmed new card opened in the last 24 months, the Capital One Quicksilver, and 2 pending applications including this CSR one. My only other cards are 2 which were both opened in 2020/21.

I have had CLIs granted on the two older cards yesterday though, could that go against these pending applications?
