I've been receiving several mailings a month recently. Some were pre-selected & others were pre-approved. Usually just shred them but took a look at two this week, one from FNBO for a am-ex card and one from Citbank for a Simplicity card. Both were 18 months 0% but the Citi card paperwork stated right on it that my percentage rate after 18 months would be 13.99%. Applied online and was approved for $9,000. The Citi was pre-selected and the FNBO was pre-approved, so I don't think it matters much either way.

gainingcontrol Thanks

Thats a few that had specfic interest rates assigned to them

Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Before I applied for my Discover card I got a bunch of mailings from them. I don't remember what they said but I do recall what finally caught my attention was that they printed my name and address on the return envelope to respond to the offer.  I got my first huge approval from them $5500.

You had gotten my curiousity up and i dug up the old app the sent me, yes the same for me they had pre-printed my name and address too on the return envelope and gave me one standard APR and i also got a credit line of 5500..by the way it said ontop of the letter: Congratulations! in big bold letters..you're pre-approved  also had an invitation #

Re: Pre-approval VS Pre-selected VS invitation offers

Back in the day (pre-BK), whenever I received pre-approved applications with all of my information filled out, and an invitation #, those were always approved. I think when I received (last June) the Barclay's card application, it was a pre-approved application. Granted, the CL I received was only $350, but it was a pre-approved application just the same, and this was post-BK.

Re: Pre-approval VS Pre-selected VS invitation offers

My experience has always been this:  Pre-approved means they have done the soft pull and as long as you meet at least their minimum income, etc., you are approved.  Pre-selected means they have you on a list for some reason and therefore they are 'selecting you to apply.. Invitation is just asking you to apply..  Again, this has been my experience.

Re: Pre-approval VS Pre-selected VS invitation offers

I received two "pre-selected" offers this week from Chase and Citi. They both listed a specific post-promotional APR, and they both had invite numbers. But I don't think I'll get approved at great terms right now so I'll wait a bit. I'll watch and see if the verbiage changes at all as my score increases.

Thanks! I actually just paid them off a few weeks ago, and then a few days later got an unexpected CLI to $1050 (wrote about it on another thread); so, it does pay to keep your utilization down!
