Been in the rebuild process for just a year now and got the usual starter cards (see below). I am now pivoting and focusing on getting higher limit cards to start replacing the lower limit cards. A main concern is my AAoA, which is currently ~3 years. Current FICO scores are around 680.
Card Date Opened Limit Comments
AMEX Optima 8/2020 $500 The "Get Back into Good Graces" with AMEX card.
Capital One QS 10/2020 $800 Was originally a Platinum card with $300 limit.
Capital One QS1 3/2021 $600 Wanted to get a third card to AZEO. Originally $500 limit.
Discover IT 7/2021 $7000 App'd for this on a whim. But good starting limit.
The Discover is the first of the higher limit cards that I want to cultivate. With the much higher limit on it, I am not using that as my daily driver and putting pretty much everything on there. The AMEX will definately be replaced, but not until the beginning of the year (To get 6 months on the Discover). I know that the Capital One's are stuck in the subprime bucket and I will eventually replace them. I need to garden until Feburary or so, but I am getting a game plan together. It sounds like NFCU would be a good credit union to be a member of. My brother is a member, so that shouldn't be an issue to get an account.
Just wanted to get your opinions on what might be the best or better strategy to replace the starter cards.
