My oldest CC is a Citi Platinum Select World MC that was opened over 13 years ago. I still use it on occasion but it is mostly open due to the age of the account and size of the credit line. However, the rewards for this card are 'Extra Cash' to be used for shopping through their website and I literally never use that site. I'd like to swap this card for a rewards card from Citi that I would be more likely to use (i.e. cash back or points).
My question is if I call and change the card will it harm my credit? As I mentioned, it's by far my oldest, most established account, and I do not want to be dinged (AAoA) for swapping products. If Citi would still report a new card as opened in 1999, there is no doubt I should swap. Is this how a product change works?
Alternatively, should I think about just SDing that card and apping for another Citi card w/ better rewards? At this point, I'd prefer not to take the HI and new account hit as I've recently opened Chase Sapphire and Amex Blue Cash accounts...
Someone may let you PC to their Cash Returns card. 1% on everything and a few other rotating categories.
