I saw the thread here yesterday that mentioned it being the last day to sign up but I still see the offer on the site. Is it still available or was that only a deadline for current cardholders? I'm a little confused. Thanks.
If it is gone, it is tempting to apply for in the future because of the double cash back, plus I have a friend who will refer me which nets us both $50.
ETA: Additional question: Do you have to bank the cashback rewards for the year in order to have them all be doubled? This seems silly but it is one impression you can take from reading the terms. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks again.
After the first 12 consecutive billing periods that your new account is open, we will double all of the cash back rewards you've earned and apply them to your account in the next billing cycle. You've earned rewards when they have posted to your account by the end of the 12th consecutive billing period

Nobody really knows. The debate about when the deadline is has gone on for months.
My only suggestion is to apply for it sooner vs later (if your profile supports it). I believe the concensus is that it will definitely be gone by year's end.

Thanks. It just seemed like yesterday had been discussed as a fairly hard deadline. I would definitely be approved for it as I have about a 775 TU FICO and no baddies. No inquiries since getting Quicksilver last August.

Actually it was just yesterday that it was being discussed... I was one of the folks in a thread questioning if it was really going to end this time! ![]()
I got my card a little before I originally intended to back in July, because it was said the promotion was ending on July 31. Then it was extended, and it was said to be ending on September 30. Well, here we are...
I have no idea (and neither does anybody else, truly) but I suspect (?) that it might be going through the end of the year now. It would seem to make business sense to keep it going to promote folks to get a card for the holidays, but of course nobody knows for certain, other than the upper management at Discover.
If you've got the score and profile, if it were me I would pull the trigger and get it now while the promo is still going on. It'll be a sad day here when Discover finally does end the promotion, and there will be no shortage of folks saying "if only I had another week/month/etc. I would have app'd", and the infamous, "If I app now, do you think I could get them to honor the promo, even though it's expired?"
There's no reason to be "that guy". ![]()
However, many people are saving them as a way of keeping track of the rewards and making sure they get properly doubled.
I haven't spent my rewards and will probably just wait to see them doubled. Admittedly, I don't see getting a ton of use out of Discover anytime soon. Q4 includes amazon, department and clothing stores. While nice, it's nothing I plan to spend a ton on. I may use dept stores or clothing for holiday shopping and maybe one or two purchases on amazon but don't plan on anything earth shattering.
Q1 is usually gas, which is unexciting for me. Restaurants will be the next time the card is of large use to me, and luckily that should be Q2, although of course nothing is guaranteed.
I like the double promo, but trying to make sure I don't go out and spend just because of it.

Oh I agree. I only plan to use it when the categories are useful but for the year of double cashback it will replace Quicksilver as my daily driver since it beats the QS's 1.5%. I applied and was approved for 11k.
Be sure to check out discover deals under your account if you shop online. I got 10% cash back on am order from j.c.Penney. There are quite a few online deals but you have to order through their link (like ebates) to get the credit. I have seen 10% offers from select stores and 5% that weren't in the quarterly listing like bass pro shop and best buy. Walmart and walgreens even offered 5% cash back online.
