Question about USAA 5% Gas Amex

So for all those that think you don’t get the 5% on AU cards..you are incorrect...I had the same issue and I called USAA and finally I got to the bottom of it...it will show 1% in the part online that shows transaction, but then for the primary cardholders actual cash back it just adds it in...magically....if you audit your own cash back/transaction history for each card in the primary holders hierarchy you will see that it’s just added in to the actual cash back amount.

I thought about the itemization/breakdown not being obvious, so I redeemed all my rewards and re-started at "0 points"

I than used my primary card once for gas, and used my secondary card once for gas.

Waited several days and never got the AMXGGAS5 code for the secondary card.

When I did the math, primary=5%, secondary=1%.

I than contacted USAA, and they told me that only I (primary card) was authorized for the 5% gas. SInce the second card (my wife's) was really for MY second vehicle, they issued me a second card in my name (same number) and I cancelled my wife's AU card.

To clarify, since I only use this AMEX as a gas card, I keep one hidden in each vehicle and I do not carry it in my wallet.

I don't know what to tell you. It did not work for me.
