What do you say when they ask where you got the number?
Have you ever been told you can't call that number anymore, & had them hang up on you?
Just curious, before I try calling. (I will be calling a few numbers this week)

I've called numerous "backdoor" numerous from various lenders, and I've never been told that I "can't" call that number. I have been asked where I got the number a couple of times, and I simply reply that I got the number when being transferred from customer service in case the call was disconnected. (a fib, yes, but so far i haven't had any problems with that line.)
Agreed. The best thing to tell them is the number was given to you by another CSR you reached by calling the main customer service number.
If they don't ask, just tell them what the issue is that you're having and they'll either help you or transfer you to someone who can. If the first, second or even third person you reach via that number tells you that you can't call the number or says they can't help you...try again. Sometimes it really depends on the person and even if it's not necessarily the person's job to help you with something in particular, they might just help you anyway.
