You can request a CLI at time of activation or 60 days after having the card.  Sometimes, waiting is best so that you can show responsible use and payment history.

Yeah I wouldn't do it at the time of activation. Actually that would hurt me if anything, a collection jumped from my TU and EQ onto my EX the day after i was approved for this card, i wouldn't want them to see that

Ok then wait 60 days or longer.  As you wait, try to work on the collection.

I'm taking care of it tomorrow, I already had plans to pay it before they threw it on my EX and they knew that. Buttholes.

Re: Question for AMEX cardholders

On Activation or 61 days if you wait.

91 days after a Denial.

181 days after last approval.

I have not gotten any CLI on either of my Amex cards. Can't wait until they do. Got my ED May 23rd and my BCE June 2nd. Both were mail prequals at 12.99%.

Wanted the BCE but didn't have the prequal for it. Got my BCE prequal in the mail very soon after and sat on it for a while before saying why not apply and see.

250k+ CL and climbing.

Its best to wait at least the 60 days then , although make no mistake they will see the collection no matter what you do. Amex will continue to soft pull your credit report during the life of your account in order to keep tabs on your credit.

;
Starting Score: EQ: 714, TU 684
Current Score: EQ: 725 7/30/13, TU 684 6/2013, Exp 828 5/2018, Last App 8/5/17
Goal Score: 800 (Achieved!) In garden until Sepetember 2019

This is true. It is also true that it is difficult to determine exactly when AMEX has last SP your file. The CLI reviews that AMEX does are only on the basis of SP information, so even if the collection gets removed, if the last SP AMEX has on file includes the collection, one must still wait for the SP to catch up, for the SP to get past the time when the collection was removed, before requesting a CLI.

The 60 day general guideline could then be applied to the timing of when the collection is fully removed: 61 days after that might be a good time to do the CLI, which allows time for a SP to be done some time in that 60 day window.

In the meantime, don't be afraid to fully utilize the $500 limit as long as you are paying in full or paying frequently. That usage and payment pattern is going to be included in the CLI analysis, in AMEX's internal score for your file. When my Delta Gold limit was still $2k, I started pushing up against that limit after a year of consistent PIF usage, and they gave me an auto CLI to $3k as the balance approached $2k. By pushing the $500, and PIF, you are signalling that the limit may not be enough. It is possible eventually they will respond with an auto CLI.

Re: Question for AMEX cardholders

It may be in your best interest to wait the 61 days. Based on your SL it appears you may have just met the minimum requirements to be eligible for the cc. Best of luck!

It sounds like the collection agency was watching your credit report for new activity. Sneaky... Don't just pay it. Request deletion for payment and get it in writing before you pay off the collection. I'm afraid the new collection is going to cause you some issues going forward so you definitely want it to be deleted.
