This might be a long shot, but I figure that there's probably some myFico posters hanging out in the Venn diagram where "credit nerds" and "federal employees" overlap. Does anyone know if, and how, federal government credit cards affect one's personal credit?
For background, federal employees who travel on official business are required to open a government credit card. (It's kind of a raw deal: you're personally liable for the charges and of course it can only be used for valid expenses, but your agency reaps all of the rewards. But that's a gripe for another day).
I was recently approved for my travel card, and I'm curious whether this will have an effect on my credit profile. I know that the inquiry to open the account counts. Boy, did that show up right away. Does anyone know whether the credit limit will count toward my overall available credit? I can see this cutting either way, but since I'm personally liable for the charges . . .
My DH is a gov't employee and his CC does not show up on his CR. Like you said the inquiry hit but no other reporting since.

I was a Federal employee and got issued a credit card. It did not show up on my credit report. How it worked is you get the bill and pay for it, but sinc eyou have a grace period of 30 days or so, you submit your reimbursement vouvher right away and get the reimbursement, then pay for the card balance if you did not have extra cash laying around to pay the cc first.
They do not affect your personal credit. The lender is guaranteed payment, so approval is based upon government approval. I have had to deny a few myself.
