The numbers on a metal CSP are raised slightly, but not like a regular plastic card, and not enough for the old school imprint machines to work with.

Re: Questions About Metal Cards

Interesting, I heard people have requested a plastic version of their CSP (yes, the preferred $95 AF) and was successful.

I have both, same CCV and expiration date.  I requested the plastic version roughly 6-8 months after I got the metal card.  The metal card is nice indeed, it simply was getting the wrong attention in some establishments (not because of wanting to save if from scratches or to frame it).  Just as another poster mentioned something similar on these forums about their Palladium card.  So, for folks to start talking pictures of it, biting it (yes biting) and slamming it on the counter was just not the kind of attention needed.  After all, to me, it's just a credit/payment card.

So, to my knowledge, you can request and have both.

Not sure how accurate my CSR was but when I called to request a plastic version for travel purposes, she said they do not offer a plastic version.

Try another CSR, as you can see, more success stories with people receiving the plastic version.

So, why do people prefer the plastic version of the CSP? If I have a CSP, I'd go for the metal version for durability.

It's a matter of personal preference.  Some people don't want a heavy wallet, others do not want to draw attention.  Some like to show it off, others think the metal card will last longer, albeit scratches faster than its counterpart.
