1. I always pay my CC's in full for starters.....but I was wondering if Chase would allow a large purchase for my dad's birthday...The chase card has a credit limit of 8K (zero balance so all of the 8K limit is avaikable)......If I go to the store and get out the card to pay for something that costs 8K, would that purchase go through?? Would Chase decline it? Any issues or advice or anything to keep in mind?
2. Would it be okay to let that full 8k balance from that purchase show on my statement (maxed out card) Like the statement comes and shows statement balance of 8K? Since that would be maxed out would Chase be upset or would other creditors take AA against me once it hits credit report? I always pay IN FULL right after the statement posts but yeah wondering...
3. I have a new capital one card that I am hoping to get my first CLI for. I am reaching the 6 months mark in 2 months. This past statement shows a statement balance of 500...however I spent another 500 like a few hours after the statement with the 500 statement balance was emailed to me (by accident, was hoping for the purchase to be included in the statement received showing a total of 500+500=1000).......Since I am trying for a CLI or Auto-CLI, should I make a payment for the statement balance of 500 OR pay off total balance of 1000? I am afraid that paying just the statement balance would NOT get the system to give me a CLI because my card would still have a 500 balance from the current cycle not yet billed but still subtracted from my available credit.
Sorry for the possibly stupid questions...I am still a newbie to this stuff.
Thanks
Best thing would be to call Chase and ask. I did that with my PayPal card once and they temporarily raised my limit to let the purchase go through. I think Amex is known to do that if you ask. I'm not sure about Chase though.
Yeah, probably not a great idea to let it report as maxed out you could always pay at least some of the balance early so they don't report the statement balance as maxed out.
Capital One is a mystery to all.
I would call Chase before I made a single charge that maxed out my Credit Limit
You will absolutely take a FICO hit if you let the maxed out card statement that was....can you make a payment BEFORE the statement cuts so you don't have that hanging over you?
With Cap1, if you have the money to make the full payment, I would suggest that. You didn't mention your Cap1 Credit Limit or your score so not sure if you've heard of "bucketing" as Cap1 is famous for this so it's hard to tell if you will be successful with your CLI or not. However, the good thing about Cap1 CLI's is that they are SP and you can request online. If it doesn't get approved, you could always try again in other 90 or so days....as long as your account is bucketed.
I will counter with that credit utilization is a short term memory for most Fico Scoring. I say go for it with Chase. Calling them in advance is a good idea. As long as you PIF by the due date, no harm done. In two to three months your Fico score will bounce back like nothing happened. As far as CLI's concerned, not a fan of them if you don't need the credit. Rather just get a new card with a SUB. Hint Hint for you planned big purchase.

The counter to this is if others take AA based on the utilization hit and drop in score. These are not automatically undone once the score rises, especially in the worst case where an issuer closes the card.

The AA's I've seen being reported have been when the high utilization is carried, not PIF.

It might go through or not. But I would advise you not to make a purchase for the whole credit limit like that.

It could have adverse consequences.

The more you pay off, the better it will look for your CLI request.

chase will if you PIF report a zero balance on a statement balance in full. keep that in mind. wont hurt to call them.
