RIP Credit One

I am excited to share that I have officially dumped my $300 Credit One! My annual fee was about to be charged next month. With the recent graduation of my NFCU secured card I felt I no longer needed C1.

When I called, the rep said "I will give you a credit of $38, go ahead and buy whatever you'd like, and then feel free to call us back to close your account."  I said, um no. I appreciate it but I'd rather you just close it now.  This lady refused to take no for an answer... she kept saying it's free money just take it and call us back. I was getting super frustrated! I didn't expect it to be this difficult. I kept saying no, I don't want the credit, I don't want to call back, I just want you to close it now. Finally I asked to speak with a supervisor that can close it immediately and suddenly she gave up and closed it for me.

I really don't have any other issues with Credit One... they gave me unsecured credit when no one else would so am thankful for that. I barely used the card. This was my only card with an AF so I am glad to be rid of it. Smiley Happy

Re: RIP Credit One

Every time someone closes a Credit One (or other predatory/fee happy) card a Credit Angel gets their wings...

Congratulations on sending CO to the shredder... but watch out.. make sure theres no residual interest and that its actually closed on the next statement....

Re: RIP Credit One

Congrats! I did the same 2 weeks ago. My AF would be due end of this month, politely asked to close acct, didn't wanna take no for an answer. Replied Sir you have 1 more month before your AF hits so we'll just leave your acct open until then. Told the lady in the year I've had the card I only swiped it twice & to please close acct. Well Sir you may have an emergency so we'll leave the card open & you call back next month before your AF is due if you'd still like to close your acct. Told her I keep more cash on hand than the $600 CL on the card, either close now or transfer me to someone who will. This week now shows closed by consumer on CRs ! Glad that's over with!

That sounds like the same rep I had! I get having customer retention tactics but geez. After saying"no" the third time I was 100x more ready to close. And congrats to you also!!
