Raising APR on a Closed Account

I just moved and don't have immediate access to my cardholder information, but I missed a payment on an CC account (AMEX) that has been closed since last December. And AMEX raised my APR to the default rate!!! Now I'm entirely sure, but I thought that the APR was locked on a closed account. Does anyone know the facts about this for AMEX?

Thanks,

Re: Raising APR on a Closed Account

No, the APR is not locked on a closed account.  The terms are locked, but I'm sure the terms included a provision for raising the APR to the default rate if you missed a payment.  They all do.
