Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

Just got a Credit Check Total alert for an Inquiry from CBNA, but I haven't applied for any Citi products recently. (Just says CBNA) so I think it is one of my two "real" Citi cards.

I do have a Citi Secured Mastercard that is cutting the 13th statement today.

Also have a Diamond Preferred for a few months, that I just put a charge on for the first time (have been paying down the 0% balance transfer).

Also, have a Best Buy card for a while now.

Does anyone know if Citi does a HP to unsecure, even if its a few months early and I haven't requested it directly? Or should I call in and ask them about it (I don't know who would want to steal my identity with my nutty credit history, but you never know.)

Thanks,

Gib

Re: Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

I tried Citi's chat service. They were useless and gave me the phone number for Equifax.

The inquiry was on my Transunion report...

Re: Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

I'd pick up the phone and call them. I'd be worried that someone has your details and applied for a card under your name. It's highly unusal for banks to do hard pulls without your express consent.

Re: Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

Just got off the phone with the EO. They're really nice, but couldn't see any recent applications.

She suggested that it might be from a CLI request at Best Buy or Macy's (had forgotten Macy's was CB).

aand. got it... I think...

It is 99% likely that the alert was for a CLI request on my Best Buy card from February 8th, but (according to the phone rep) they don't report the pull until the statement cuts - which sounds ridiculous and weird and like something i've never heard. My guess is maybe it starts soft, and they swap it over when they cut a statement. (I know, that doesn't make sense either, but I DON"T have a hard pull from Citi through any of February.)

Re: Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

Both Citi cards and CBNA (which is how their store cards show on my report) show as CBNA in inquiries.  If you didn't have a previous pull from the Best Buy CLI request, I am sure that's what it is.  FWIW, my wife's BB and my now-closed Home Depot reported the CLI inquiry/inquiries within a day.

Re: Random CBNA hard pull on TU.

I used to have a citi secured. They will do a random HP on TU to determine to remove the deposit. If it is related to that, you should get a letter in a few weeks letting you know it is going to be converted.

The CSR and EO didn't know either but my graduation letter was dated the day of the pull

Water88 was right!

Just got the letter today that my card graduates next month. I hadn't realized it had already been 16 months. I thought I was closer to a year.

Looks like I get my money back next month. Now to figure out how to get them to raise my limit when it graduates.
