Obviously, the prestige of a CSP is a nice perk, too (not that this is a surprise to anyone).
Err You want to build a relationship with Chase and you want to start with the CSP? that is totally the wrong way to put it ....
In order Freedom , Slate ----> CS/CSP as far as their own products goes. Chase also offers the Amazon visa and it might be even easier to get then the Freedom/Slate cards. You say you can't meet the "Spending" for the Freedom But you can with the CSP ? that makes no sense bcause there is no spending requirement on the Freedom because it has no AF. You only get out of it depends on how much you put in. The CSP requires a $95 AF which means you should be putting enough in to make at least $95 dollars worth of UR points to make up the AF.
Yeah, but having the CSP gives off the impression you CAN meet the minimum spend. And thats what's truly important. ![]()

Looks like it won't be a problem.
Just got off the phone with the reconsideration line—I've called recon 4 times today:
1. to check application status
2. to verify the application status as being denied
3. for reconsideration; they denied me again, this time due to thin file, not income
4. to see if they would reconsider the CS individually (I'd assumed the last analyst had only reconsidered the CSP).
The analyst told me that they don't overturn reconsiderations, and that both cards have been issued initial denials and reconsideration denials.
Off to the garden, I guess? I don't know if I want to risk another hard pull on my credit score, especially with it being so fragile right now.

I still think, like everyone has told you, that getting a Freedom and establishing a relationship with Chase for the next two years while your file and income grows is your best bet. I could be wrong but I doubt CSP is anyone's first credit card. Especially not anyone who is a student and makes less than 20k/year. There is only upside in getting a Freedom. And then bank those UR points and transfer them to the CSP one day once you qualify for one.

You weren't going to get it with 15 Recons imho .... Your income + your Credit reports don't support it. Get the Freedom and Garden ..
People have called 3 times and got it done so you can call multiple times.
Why not get the Sallie Mae and get some rewards while you are building your credit.... CSP is not running away and in my opinion you only waste your money with the AF now and cannot get much out of it with your income. But 5% on gas, grocery and bookstores (Amazon) looks a whole lot better to me.
My biggest concern at this point is that I have three HPs, now - arguably more:
1. applying to BCE
2. applying to CS
3. applying to CSP
...and a possible 4th or 5th HP from recons. I don't know if I want to try to apply for Freedom if they've denied me based off of thin file.
Apply for a Sallie Mae. They'll pull TU. Barclay's seems to be friendly to thin files and it's designed for students. 5% back at Grocery / Gas ($250 / month spend caps) and Bookstores (Amazon) ($750 / month). You won't be spending a lot of money so these numbers should work well for you.
If you want anything with Chase go for a Freedom. Rotating 5% categories at this point in your life will suit you better than a CSP. You've already admitted you can't meet the initial spend for the signup bonus so that's just an enormous waste of an opportunity.
I would also like to correct a claim you made earlier in the thread that closing a card with a lender will negatively effect your credit score. It won't. The positive tradeline will remain for 10 years. You would, however, get dinged for a new account / lower AAoA from the newly opened account.
The 3 isn't going to hurt you though IDK why you applied for both the CS and CSP since you would of gotten approved for one of them since I am pretty sure it is the same underwriting.
Chase does like to see 1 year to approve you. I got Approved for my Freedom with 24 inq's and my file is pretty thin

The trick is to put a security freeze on your reports. When you do this Chase will not pull a HP and will instead use your last report they pulled if it is recent enough. I know this because it's what I just recently did with them. I unlocked my credit files for one day only. Chase pulled my credit profile during that one day open window and within 30 days they used the same report for each request I had after that which included: applying for two more Chase cards and requesting two CLI on card activation. My files were frozen when all the requests were made after the initial one and not once did I get the response denied due to reports being frozen.
