This is what I was told and have seen elsewhere. Although there is a box that you can check to say you do not want to be considered for the American Express card.

The box is a "I don't want a Macys Amex under any condition" box. If you don't check it, they consider for the combined account (Amex plus store) and then store only -- giving you the best you qualify for. Macy's has absorbed dozens of other stores, and often their blacklists. OP, have you had any issues with a department store in the past?
The system at Macy's isn't like the system at Best Buy, where you either qualify for the HSBC Mastercard, or the store card only. The system at Macy's requires the applicant to decide which card they want to be considered for. A check in box means that they will only try and approve you for the Macy's red card, if you do not check the box, you are not applying for the Store card, you are only asking to be considered for the Amex, only. Its not an either or sort of application like the one at Best Buy like I previously stated.

Well then please prove me wrong, I work there and have people apply everyday. If you can show me where you are reading this, that would be awesome.
There is a box for the Macy's card but that wasn't mentioned to me at the time of application. My sister worked there part-time over the holiday season and just confirmed that it comes up on the signature pad during the application process. The associate had me moving so fast I didn't notice...
No I didn't burn any department store or Macys in the past...My credit score for Experian is around 570..I haven't check in a month or so...(lender pull). As I stated I'm in a rebuilding stage and have only 2 derogs that I'm disputing, everything else is paid/closed and I have 9 good standing accounts that includes my car financed by Chase (my bank), and 2 credit cards...I pulled my report (since this was an adverse action) from Experian prior to calling them back so I could reference while on the phone.
The "credit analyst" seemed more concerned about the 2 derogs as opposed to the current and paid accounts...What really frustrates me is that I also thought Macy's was easy to get...fooled me! Lol..
Thanks for the suggestions...
The regular store card is, trust me. But since you apped for the Amex version, you should call back and see of there is a way they can app you for the store card only, using the same report so that you don't get another HP.
This will be my third call Logan..do you think it would be a problem? I know they have notes of my previous calls because the rep stated that in the conversation. I have no problem calling..Macys gets ALOT of my money!
