Refusing CLIs as a strategy ... Cap One and Discover

Iv heard of stratgeic refusing of CLI's with Cap 1 cards....where it sometimes pays to not take the first offier....

What about Discover? Is there a good reason to refuse a CLI with them (and im presuming your not in the big leagues and have a lot of extended credit)

Cap1 and Discover strategies should be different. Cap1 expects CLI requests every 6 months. But discover is known to provide CLI even in 31-32 days. In my case, I have asked in 20 days too. Accept whatever discover gives you or just recon and tell your expectation, treat it good and ask again. Your discover card will grow limits for sure.

This matches my experience. I will say that sometimes Cap1 won't even give you a CLI after 6 months if your usage of the existing line has been too low, whereas Discover has repeatedly added 3 or 4K to my card. To be fair it is my daily driver due to my year of double cashback, but I haven't remotely approached using a significant part of even my original 11K at once, and they still provide ample CLIs.

Even when my Cap One card WAS my daily driver and I was putting $1k-$2k through it per month I was turned down after 6 months for a CLI.

Yup. In my 2 years of having a Quicksilver I've gotten a grand total of 2 CLIs for 3k and until last October they were my daily driver. I couldn't even get my first CLI with them until I had a statement cut with about  $2k on it, with a lot of heavy usage besides that.

I have never seen anyone on the forums refuse a CLI from Discover in hopes to get a bigger one. Matter of fact, Ive never seen anyone refuse a CLI period from Discover.

Cap1 is way different. The only CLI refusals Ive seen is where they offer $100- $500. Usually if you refuse that offer, and wait it out another few weeks or a month, you'll get more.
