So... here's the deal. My wife has 2 Cap1 Cards. Last year and this year when we were trying to build our credit we addedd each other as AU's. Since that time, I've gotten another C1 (venture) I also had 2 other C1's prior to venture, Discover, BOA, Target, WM, JCP, Citi, Barclay. I am quite a bit more responsible with my cards than she is. My balances are kept low but hers are high. I've tried everything to help her understand the importance of having and keeping credit.
I've decided to remove myself altogether from both of her accounts. My question is... this should help me right? Should I pay the accounts down before I remove myself? Will the last balance remain on my report? I understand from what I've read (some conflicting info) that it stays on your report but it doesn't continue reporting as current. So I just want to know if I can be benefited by this move?
I think that applies to your own cards. Remember that it will lower your overall CL. As long as your overall UT is low on your cards, it shouldn't have much of an impact, if any.
I would also like to know more on this.
I was under the impression that the entire tradeline could be removed from the CR by sending mails, not sure to whom though, and also who should send them, the primary cardholder or the AU.
I would send both. I have my hubby as AU on my VS account. Going to send a letter to have him removed and also call VS. I think it just looks weird on his report!

It would only be a difference of 2K. Alone I've got over 30k

Earlier this year I got my three "official" annual free credit reports and found that I was listed as an AU on an old Capital One account from years ago, which was strange since last year it didn't show up. Since I no longer have any info on the account I simply disputed it with all three credit bureaus, and within a couple of weeks all three bureaus removed the account from my reports. I also got a letter from Capital One stating they had removed me from their records of the account as well, so I'm 'assuming' (I hate that word) it won't be reappearing. I'm still not sure why it reappeared in the first place (the account was closed years ago), but all is well now.
Your situation might be different since the account in question is still open, but I'm just adding this to let you know not to be too surprised if it 'pops' back up, and that if it does it's easy to fix.
My 2¢
When I removed myself as an AU on my ex-GF's card, the balance on it was frozen, and still being factored into my utilization. I had to dispute the account with the three CBs to get it removed, but that was simple since it was already noted that I wasn't responsible for the account.
