Returned payment/insuffient funds

So I stupidly put a payment on discover from the wrong bank acc. An account I unfortunately am not able to deposit $ into quickly enough. What are my options here? I already called discover and they said its too late to stop it, to call the bank to stop it. I think that will put a stop payment charge on? And will either way end up a returned payment to discover, which I don't want. Will that negatively affect my relationship with discover? What can I do here? I have the funds, just in the wrong account.

It's hard to say what action if any that they'll take.  I have seen other creditors take adverse action including closing accounts because of a returned payment.  That probably won't happen here but they do take these types of incidents seriously.  Fix it as quickly as possible and I would follow up with another call to them.

Re: Returned payment/insuffient funds

I'd love to fix it right now but they won't let me initiate another payment since that ones going through to pay it down to 0(from 1200 of 12500). Everything's been golden and my accounts had tons of $$ run through it. Ugh. This sucks for such a stupid mistake.

Yeah that sucks.  Hope it works out for you.  Once youre able to make the payment try to get ahold of someone in their credit department as high as possible and let them know it's an honest mistake.  Not trying to scare you but cc companies see a lot of cases where payments are returned and thye tend not to go over well.  If you have an established history with them, that will help your case.  Good luck.

Re: Returned payment/insuffient funds

I dread this sometimes. I have a few accounts listed and occasionally I make a big payment that only 1 account can cover. I find myself staring at the confirmation screen longer than normal that turns into an almost dazed like clicking of the "submit payment" button. lol

sorry OP, I'm thinking as long as your bill gets paid on time and you are in communication with them (follow up and possible escalate), they may be understanding and give you the needed break.

Is it close to the due date?

Re: Returned payment/insuffient funds

you can't wire some funds over?  that's why I like USAA, I can pull funds from any of my accounts and they are available NOW. Gotta' watch it because they are in both accounts for a few days.

This has happened multiple times to me through the years, when times were tough and even during my rebuild.  I never really had any problem besides a returned payment fee (usually $35).  Of course, make sure another payment is set up in time before the account becomes late.  But I wouldn't panic, I think you'll be ok...though obviously I can't guarantee that I have done it across several with no issues.
