I noticed something peculiar on one of my credit card receipts (it was a swipe transaction on an older terminal, I think made by Hypercom).
Below the normal data (last 4 digits of account number, authorization number) is a field called "Rewards Program" followed by a six digit number. I have not seen this previously and am wondering if this has anything to do with identifying rewards programs so merchants can determine which cards have higher interchange fees.
Does anyone know what this number really means?
