Rewards confusion

Hello... hubby and I have a secured discover it card and are using it for gas only. We aren't getting rewards even though the website says we should be. Is it because I'm paying off the charges immediately? I'm trying to avoid a large balance posting so I just PIF right away.

Thought I'd ask here before calling them and sitting on hold forever 😭
Any advice appreciated.

Re: Rewards confusion

How long have you had the card? Rewards are put into account after each billing period, so if the card is new, you might not be seeing them yet.

Re: Rewards confusion

Ohh maybe that's the issue. We are new to having cards of any sort so I didn't know what to look for. We have had the card a month. I thought it would show rewards for each purchase.

Re: Rewards confusion

Yeah, most of my cards post rewards after the statement cuts.

Capital One is an exception. Rewards post immediately. And I believe that it takes two statements for AMEX to post rewards.

I'm sure someone will comment specifically on Discover.

Thank you both ☺
I just thought I was missing out by paying to quickly.

Re: Rewards confusion

I've never paid that much attention to itemized charges, and amounts earned at each swipe. Only at statement time, thus when I see my total rewards earned.

Can comfirm. Discover is after statement.

Re: Rewards confusion

Your rewards will generally post within 24 hours of your statement cutting and then another day or so for your cash back match on your one year anniversary to update. They’ll show up soon after the statement date.

Capital One is one of the few who post rewards after a purchase has posted.

Re: Rewards confusion

Many cards tell you the amount of the reward as soon as the transaction posts. But your your money or points won't become available until later.
