Re: Secured Credit Cards

I was a member of Neighbors FCU but I lost my job and my accounts ended up being closed with them. I had a credit card with NFCU, which was closed, and I'm now paying it back. So I only have a chase account now.

Re: Secured Credit Cards

I would ask NavyFed if they would be willing to reopen your account once paid...any other negatives on your report?

Re: Secured Credit Cards

Differently don't burn NFCU they are one of the most generous CC lenders in the country you will need them in your rebuilding.

Re: Secured Credit Cards

I started with a secured Cap One in August of last year.  They won't "upgrade" you (to un-secured) but once you've established some history with them you can apply for an unsecured card.  I did in April of this year & was approved & they've been extremely generous with CLI since.

Starting Score (02/01/2014): EQ 548 EX 548 TU 564
Current/Most Recent FICO Score (4/01/2015): EQ 686 EX 668 TU 669

Re: Secured Credit Cards

Yes, you should definitely pay it back to NFCU. I don't know how they are with going after debtors, but if they want to they can make your life a whole lot harder by obtaining a judgment against you. By owing that money on a closed card, it is definitely holding your score down as well. Good luck!

Re: Secured Credit Cards

Thank you, I'm paying them faithfully to try and get back to a point to where i can open an account with them ... I hope by the first of the year.
