So I guess I'm one of those that don't read the fine print I hardly use the Shell card since I get gas at Costco or Sam's Club. I got an email and just read the bold print stating $0.75 cents off per gallon for 20 gallons. Because of this, I've been using the card for the past two months for the first 20 gallons and wondered why I did not see any credit on my statement. I looked at the targeted offer again and it turns out that the deal isn't that great. You'll have to purchase 75 gallons the prior month to get $0.75 cents off of up to 20 gallons the next month. I would classify this targetted offer as a bit deceptive
It's not... but I just think as an average consumer (and I think I'm pretty average), we have a 2 second attention span when skimming through offers. Within the first impression, I believe we accept the offer based on the graphic/text on the headline. If the headline perhaps said, "... 75 gallons this month, will save you .75 next month...", then it wouldn't as deceptive, thus avoiding possible ambiguity.
But yes, I am the misinformed consumer and should have read it better.

How is it deceptive? The terms aren't hidden. Failure to read or to at least get clarification isn't an excuse nor does it make this offer deceptive.
+1
Plus, with credit card offers, the devil is ALWAYS in the details. Just ask Credit One cardholders
(and I say that as one of their few defenders on this site!)
Add fuel rewards to your shell card... buy 2 snickers bars (inside the Shell store) and save $0.05 a gallon (up to 20 gallons)... while not $0.75 a gallon off... it's a discount that's easy to get and repeats most months.
Don't like Snickers? 2 Twix offers same discount... two Skittles gets you $0.03 off

I get some with my Sears MC and they are a lot of times like spend $300 on gas, groceries to get (x) back, and I don't spend that much to get any credit off.

Wait a minute, Snickers get stuck in my teeth, I think its the nuts LOL. I am not a fan of Twix I prefer Kit Kat, you didnt mention that in your post. Skittles are ok but I prefer Jolly Rancher. Should I write a letter of complaint to my Citibank Shell Mastercard? and I could never figure out their rewards either. They email all the time, this month it is pay your utility bill with your Shell Mastercard and get a $20 statement credit. Sheesh.
Thanks
Mark
I've never had a card that gives promos for gas, or if I did, I always ignored them. So I'm just curious: When the ad says, "Save $.075/gal (up to 20 gallons)", does that mean 20 gallons each time you go to the pump, or is that 20 gallons total for the month?
Edit: I got it, it's 20 gallons per fill-up. I guess that makes more sense. Otherwise, it's kinda pointless. Ha ha.
