Hi....I am really interested in this 'shopping cart trick' that I've read about on here. Kind of interesting. Well, I went over to VS and put a few things in my cart, filled out the form, and then the pop-up came up with a preapproval. I think I kind of freaked out and decided not to do it at the time. I don't know, but I was nervous. Now I have decided that I want to apply for it. The problem is that the pop up won't come up again. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
I think I read somewhere that you have to clear your browser history....not sure.
Clear your cookies as well.
What they said:
First, use a free program like CCleaner (you can Google it) - that will clear everything out of all browsers that you have with one click (Chrome / IE / Firefox, etc). Otherwise, just clear cookies and cache directly from the browser. Clearing your history won't do anything because it's just YOUR browser history for your use, there's nothing stuck into your history that any 3rd parties can track or see - but CCleaner will get rid of that too if you want it to.
Then log back into to VS and try again for the popup (make sure you have popups enabled - not disabled- otherwise you really won't see the popup).
IF you get it, they should say you are pre-approved for "up to XXXX". In my case, I got the limit that was "up to". They said "up to $500" and I got the $500, nothing less.
They ask for your LAST FOUR of your social security number (soft pull). Then see your result.
The one question that I don't think anybody knows is this:
What if you get the popup and then do what you did before? Not accept it or ignore it? Does that mean you WON'T get the popup no matter what you do because in their system they won't show it to you until a certain period of time's passed?? That's something to consider as well. I don't know if that's the case or if such a thing even exists. But if clearing your browsers doesn't work, then maybe something like this is going on...

Also curious if they would stop the SPs after you've been to the site too many times with credit not good enough to get the preapproval in the first place.

I don't know the answer to that, but it's a good question. I've read enough on the topic around to know that there are many people from this forum who tried for months before finally getting the popup - did that mean their score improved during that time and finally the popups showed up? Possibly.
All good questions but unfortunately not enough answers.
For now I guess the best thing to do is keep trying - clear your cookies/cache - and keep trying. Some people have had success months after the first attempt.
Did exactly what unusuallyconfused said, and got the preapproval pop-up, when I never use to get them before!
Also decided to simply 'X' out of the site instead of clicking an option, just in case!
no go for me

Here's exactly what I did, using Mozilla:
Before going on the VS site, I went into my "Tools" setting. Went into "Options". Then, went to "Content" and unclicked the "block pop-ups button".
Next, in that same interface, went to "Privacy". Towards the bottom is a button that says "Show Cookies". Click that, then click "Remove All Cookies". Go back to the original interface.
Go to the "Advanced" tab. Hit the first button that says "Clear Now". This one is attributed to the cache, which by looking to the left of the button you will see mentioned a couple times. Click that.
Now you may go to victoriassecret.com. I put 3 random things in my shopping cart, went to check out. I did not log in, but did it as a guest. Put all my information exactly as in the my credit report into it. After filling out all the boxes, I made sure to put "send to billing address", just to prevent further delaying or screwing up the process. After hitting the "continue to check-out" button or whatever it was, the pop-up came up!
*Note: You will know your pop-ups are disabled because the Victoria's Secret site will throw a bunch up at you before even getting to the pre-approval part. Usually the pop ups have to do with deals and such.
