Should I app Barclaycard Arrival World MC with thin file?

Hi, guys,

TU just deleted the last derog on my credit report – a paid federal tax lien that the IRS withdrew. I now have a clean but thin file with: one car loan just paid off; one new car loan reporting one month (DCU); one DCU visa (reporting one month); one Cap1secured card reporting since November. My oldest credit account is four years old – that’s the car loan I just paid off. I had another positive older car loan that was reporting well but just aged off. With these stats, could I expect to be approved for Barclay’s Arrival World MC? I really like the card because I travel a lot, the rewards look great and it has 0% APR for the first year. No other rewards travel card looks that good. Do you think I should give it a try? I  haven’t pulled my TU Fico, but it was 649 back in November so I imagine it would be a lot higher now. My EQ Fico is 684. And I have three inquiries on TU. Before I came to CB, I apped Barclay in November for their average credit card and was declined. It was dumb of me because I had the lien AND a paid judgement on my report and no positive revolving credit. Since they’re so conservative, it is worth it to me to try it this early on in my rebuilding? If you think it’s too much of a long shot, can you suggest a better option to earn travel rewards. Thanks so much!

What current cards do you have, what are their limits? whats your income? You need to pull your TU and see what your score is, also need to determine AAOA just do it through credit karma, should give you a general idea of what it is.

I would think it may be a longshot, until you have at least a few months longer of history with your recenly opened cards. Your history is somewhat short, and you have not had the recently opened cards for long. This is one of Barclay's better card offerings, and they seem to be a little more picky when approving.

They denied me last week (see scores in my signature) with AAoA of 4.5 years. I have several cards with higher (15-20k) limits, as well as a open card with Barclay, since 2009. To be fair, I recently opened 3 accounts. On re-con, I was told that they need to see "some history" with the newly opened cards before they would approve me. Thye defined "seeing some history" as at least 3 months.

They might give you the platinum one (no AF version). I'd personally would wait, I dont see a point of getting a card that it's not even the one you want or need.

Really this is a strong YMMV!!!!! I applied last night and was approved, but its not the "world" card, still has an AF of $89.00 and a CL of $3,000.00. If you're feeling lucky, pull the trigger. If you get denied, study the reasons you are denied and capitalize on it.

+2 You need more of a portfolio and scores seem to be a little more on the low end. The good news is that you have a decnet CC that can help you but they need to see than that. Garden a few more months and then try again.

I wouldn't recommend it. Build your history, credit limits with other tradelines, and when you don't think you have a thin file then you can app.

Good luck and best of patience to you! Smiley Happy

Also agree based on my experience with Barclay. You have a decent account with DCU that should help you out down the road with its history. Take care of it and you'll be ready soon.
