Should I apply for BCE? [UPDATE]

I just checked my scores. Fico says they are EQ 666, TU 657 (which dropped for some reason from 686 Smiley Sad) and EX 673 (up from 648 Smiley Happy)

I want to apply for the AMEX BCE, never done it before. I recently refinanced my car so that may be the reason behind the score drops. My only negatives is a repo from 2009 and a judgment from 2010. I paid that judgement in the form of a settlment back in DEC 2012.

I make 28k a year. Not asking for a huge CL but as you see in my signature DCU approved me for their platinum with a 10k limit. I've had that card 6 months, perfect standing. My other 2 cards are also in perfect standing. I didn't look at my aaoa but I've had credit since 2006.

Any chance of me getting approved?

Only one way to find out.  I had scores similar to you and apped for the green card and delta gold cc, I was approved for both.  I didn't have much credit history but didn't have anything negative either.

Your scores may make it. But the negatives may weight you down. I say 50/50 chance. If denied. Wait for letter so you know what to improve on. Go for it. Good luck. I just got my two last week. So in encouraging others.

Do you want the BCE because you want an Amex, or for the rewards?   If the latter, the Sallie Mae card is a much better choice.  (And if the former, I would go for the Everyday instead as it has the capacity to become useful, but more of a personal choice)

Re: Should I apply for BCE?

What does the ED card offer that the BCE doesn't?

FICO 5 ,4, 2 - 10/2023                            FICO 8 - 10/2023                                   FICO 9 - 10/2023                                   FICO 10 - 10/2023

Re: Should I apply for BCE?

If you do 20 transactions per month, you get a minimum of 1.2MR per transaction.  That is a minimum of 2%, compared to the BCE 1% on non-category purchases.  However, this relies on you redeeming MR via travel partners which may not be for everyone.    But if rewards are important, the Sallie Mae always wins, so if possible get that and the Everyday.  You don't need to use the Everyday any time soon, it just sets your member since date, has no fee etc.

Re: Should I apply for BCE?

+1.  The ED is a great free card.  20 transactions is easier than you would think.  I have never had a billing period where I haven't received the bonus.  And the value of the points is greater than the percent cash back you would get with BCE.

EX:694 TU:744 EQ:777
Amex ED $19.5k - BoA Travel Rewards $15k - CSP $5k - SDFCU EMV $15k - NFCU goRewards $20k - Barclays Arrival $6.5k
